About Me

I am a student of journalism temporally based in Zagreb. Last year I had a secret wish to do a Balkan trip and now I enjoy living and finding myself here (I mean, writing!).

My life in Croatia I describe like 'the real life' because it seems that here I do things that I have never done: playing squash, dressing up for an opera, eating Viennese style desserts and buying flowers on Sunday market.

My future plans: participate and fight in La tomatina, dance tango in the main square (but firstly, learn how to do it), try grape trampling, make an espresso with fabulous crema, plant a palm tree, get tanned on deck of a yacht and go to truffle hunting.

My blog: http://frenchfriesdays.blogspot.com/ (it is in Lithuanian)
P.S. it is called 'French Fries Days' because I am always in mood for French Fries and, in general, no matter that happens to you, if you can get French Fries, you can survive everything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because visiting a country without meeting it's people is worthless.

My short CS experience:

2014, 17th - 22nd of January
OK. Now I can write something here. We gained a brilliant couchsurfing experience in Paris.
The thing we all understood was that without Quentin (our formidable host) we would be just ordinary-bored-armed-with-cameras-tourists. And for sure we would be hiding in some creepy hotel in Monmartre watching TV5 Monde. Dear French, now we know how you're partying in Bastille.

Interests

Folding origami cranes, having big dreams, night cooking, writing letters, seeing the sun rising in different places, doing salads with basilic + mozzarella + tomatoes, learning languages, telling and hearing stories, taking photos, visiting cafés, being snobby or being sentimental.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Eat Pray Love, Roman Holidays, Midnight in Paris, To Rome with Love, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Seven Years in Tibet, Babel, Into the Wild, L'arnacoeur, One Day, Big Fish, Julie & Julia, Le Scaphandre et le Papillon, The Hundred-Foot Journey, Chef, Red Obsession, Sideways.

Have to confess that I'm expert of romantic comedies. According to IMDB, I've seen 244 and that number is still growing! And if it is not scary, I am a passionate fan of Harry Potter as well.

Music: Coldplay, OneRepublic, Travis, Imagine Dragons, Bastille, Foster The People, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Sting (I listen to one of his concerts while studying), R.E.M., Snow Patrol, Calvin Harris, Maroon 5, Jamiroquai, Stromae, Astor Piazolla, Tom Newman, Richard Galliano, Hans Zimmer.

As you can see, I like men singing. But in the shower I definitely sing Katy Perry.

Books: Anthony Bourdain 'Kitchen Confidential', David Lebovitz 'The Sweet Life in Paris', Camus 'La Peste', Exupéry 'Le petit prince', something of Murakami, Keruack "The Dharma Bums', Irving 'Until I Find You',Goethe 'Faust', 'The Sorrows of Young Werther', 'Elective Affinities', Kafka 'Letters to the Father', Bach 'Illusions'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

City center. Randomly singing 'Grace Kelly' in karaoke and winning tickets to MIKA's concert, which started after 30 minutes.

Sailing (or at least trying to sail) a catamaran in the Adriatic Sea near the shores of Pag Island in Croatia.

Eating a real cheeseburger in NYC. Believe me, that was really something amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to make Lithuanian specialities (cepelinai, balandėliai, žemaičių blynai; but you need to have a grater!)+ encourage to taste them (it's essential part because one friend of mine needed 2 weeks to get ready to taste one of these dishes).

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, United States, Uruguay
