About Me

CURRENT MISSION

World: 196 Madele: 11 ... It's on ;)

ABOUT ME

I'm a born and bread South African who LOVEs to travel! I feel the world is ours to explore, experience and share! I studied Social Work which is super diverse but I also specifically work with children with Autism. I have a passion for life.. I wish to respect it, admire it and fully experience it… preferably not alone ;D

PHILOSOPHY

Lets see one sentence then? Oooh thats crazy... Never define the upper limits of yourself, others or of life & <3 it

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I don't host personally anymore as I gave up my place due to travelling so much (!), but I am sure I would end up couch-surfing myself again in the future and also hosting again! :D

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Met a guy in South Africa who couch-surfed with my friend. They came to stay with me in Struisbaai for a week and also stayed in my flat in Stellenbosch whilst I was in Nigeria.

Then my friend, Stefi, & I couch surfed whilst in New York for a week. We couch surfed at two different hosts. Was fun and crazy! from partying in Brooklyn watching people dance and twerk like no South African will ever believe me, to ice-skating in central park, to being snowed on for the first time and getting snow flake tattoos, and to laughs laughs and more laughs… haha was a roller-coaster ride but frkn awesome! ….again again ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything that moves me.. But since I guess that's vague.. here's the opposite of vague..

BOOKS:
I tend to read something that will help me with my job (working with children with Autism)
'Born on a Blue Day' was my first book about anything Autism related. He was actually an autistic savant with synesthesia with only traces of high functioning Autism.. but to read about the way his mind worked was just so insane.
Favorite I guess would be "Let me hear your voice" : a book that has summarized the autism experience from start to finish.

MUSIC:
i just love music.. i guess there kind of has to be something a tad strange about you if you do not? favorite type.. hmmm rather stuck in an old school rut (mostly alternative i guess is the genre) but more current I'd say I'm digging the whole indie folk rock vibe.. loving Passenger's other songs specifically right now, but i tend to enjoy most music I get given from friends.. it often just takes a bit longer for some than for others€.. I even learned to enjoy drum&base and dub step. still don't know the difference but I started to enjoy it.. coming form a Googoodolls, Counting Crows girl thats intense! :)

MOVIES:
I guess I'm a bit of a girl when it comes to movies.. i love scary movies but the ones that make you jump and scream. Then I also like romantic comedies.. famous chick flicks I guess? .. hmmm I guess I enjoy movies most that move me to extreme emotions.. i like to laugh so much I cry, cry so much I laugh and scream .. and shout and let it all out.. hahaha

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm…
skydiving in Namibia,
great-white shark cage diving in South Africa,
driving 3 on a DODGEY okada in Nigeria,
scuba-diving in SA,
micro-lighting in SA,
experiencing snow for the first time (and getting snowflake tattoos, haha) in NYC,
got thrown the drum stick at Matchbox concert that I flew to Pittsburgh specially to go watch (on my own hahaha) in the US

but the coolest and happiest I'd say was when we were out on the boat and we spotted a school of dolphins the second day again (but this time prepared with gear on) so we jumped in with them! Scary cuz the area is also action packed full of great whites but hearing them singing in the water was SO worth the "risk" and doing this with one of my best friends : PRICELESS! <3

Teach, Learn, Share

I love french (and can speak a little bit : did it at school for 4 years and at university for 1 and have such a desire to become fluent).

I enjoy people who think about life and respect it and also people who like to have fun and "live it up" so although I enjoy intellectual conversation, i can have equally as fun time just laughing and learning and discoursing through the experiences you share. I love adrenaline pumped activities though... so that'll be awesome experiences to share I rate.

but … I can help you out with your English and Afrikaans :) language wise I guess and I work with children with autism and studied social work so we'll have a lot to chat about there if you were interested I guess haha. I dunno you can learn from ANYONE and ANYONE can learn from you.
