About Me

Hi, I'm an open-minded and curious person and I like learning about different cultures.

I grew up speaking three languages (Turkish, Swiss German, Standard German), was an inventor and leader of games in childhood, was a lot into Japanese stuff, and had a humanistic and a computer science education.

I'm drawn to funny and positive people and I like challenging people's ideas. I also like it when people cannot be shoehorned into one category, but are complex and multi-faceted instead.

I dislike neurotic people and people who feel entitled to something just because they have the money.

I'm into so many different things that I would forget what I said when I were to start listing it.

Some of my abilities: a sense for quality, passion, fitting into vastly differing situations

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's the community aspect. It's possible to pinpoint to any spot on a world map and it's possible to reach this location and to meet the locals that make up the culture there.

Music, Movies, and Books

Manga: Bambino! (the protagonist is an Italian chef), Space Brothers (here the protagonist is trying to become an astronaut)

Movies: Fantastic Mr. Fox (superb whimsical movie by director Wes Anderson), Nausicäa (epic environmentalist animation movie that lead to the creation of Studio Ghibli)

Books: IQ84 by Haruki Murakami (kafkaesque magical realist romance epic by a Japanese author who has also lived in Italy, Greece, and USA), The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera (What is this book? It's like it's speaking to me.)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've traveled from Lugano to Venice on bicycle.

I'm a cooler person than my CS profile makes me look like.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have taught programming at a secondary school before. Also, I'm quite good at linguistics, math, and computer science.

But can you teach me how to dance or how to make music or how to cook a specialty from your country? That I'd love to learn.
