About Me

Current state of profile is written for mu future return to Vietnam, but much of it applies to France as well :)

Hello there! I'm a Floridian who is very excited to learn about Vietnam, it's history, it's people and it's culture!

Come and share this journey with me!
Fun facts:
-I've been playing the guitar for nearly 5 years! My first song I learned was 'Teenagers' by My Chemical Romance. I can also play a little bit of drums and ukulele.
-I presented my Senior Research at a Philosophy Conference in San Diego.
-Despite growing up by the ocean, I have a fear of the deep ocean, haha.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm hoping to walk away from this experience with a much greater appreciation for other ways of life besides the one that I've grown up with. Half of the people from my country do not have a passport, and do not take the time to get an appreciation for other cultures besides what they see on TV. I am hoping to gain a real insight into the lives of people from other cultures, so as to gain a true representation of who they are and what they do.

Interests

I'm a musician who's been playing on and off for about 5 years. I find that playing music is a great way to connect with other people, and I am always looking for opportunities to jam out with people.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Needful Things by Stephen King, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, 1984, Brave New World, Carrie, A Clockwork Orange, Surfing with Sartre

Music: Screaming Females, Dream Theater, A Silver Mt. Zion, Neutral Milk Hotel, Jack White, Mom Jeans, Queens of the Stone Age, Syd Matters, The Front Bottoms, Tool, Nirvana, A Day to Remember, My Chemical Romance.

Films: Little Miss Sunshine, V for Vendetta, Dead Poets Society, Moonrise Kingdom, just to name a few. I love movies but I'm personally more of a music guy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In November 2017, I wrote my first novel for a month-long writing challenge called NaNoWrimo (National Novel Writers Month), which gets people to write 50,000 words in 30 days. With much encouragement and support from my friends, I accomplished the challenge and now have my very own novel.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach how to play the guitar and some basic music theory. I can also teach the bit of French that I have been working on for myself over the past year.

As far as skills go, any guitar skills/styles would be great, as well as learning the basics on any instrument I think would be very fun. For Vietnam, I would just love to get to know more about the stories of the people I meet, and to learn more about what the important things in life are to the Vietnamese.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An evening of sharing great stories and big ideas on Life, the Universe, and Everything.
