ABOUT ME

So I'll continue to add to this but just want to get something up for the posting. A bit about me;

I like to find the paths less traveled, the local haunts, dive bars and cafes that don't usually register on the travelers bereau. Not that the historical landmarks should be skipped but they tend to be a bit docile. The locals know where the real fun is. This probably stems from growing up at themeparks and megaplexes in the armpit of tourist trap hell, home sweet Orlando.

I spend a good part of my life in music halls and thought I'd probably end up on a tour bus until I couldn't walk. But I worked through college, caught few lucky breaks and found my way to working with a fantastic theatre company working on sets and lighting rigs in a beautiful historic theatre on the east coast of Florida, near the beaches and rivers. Not a place to be at all.

I've always had a great passion and interest in art, design, travel, and environmental causes. I believe that traveling and experiencing other cultures will only serve to further ignite these passions.

I've a keen interest in the art of tattooing. In fact part of my travel plans include being tattooed while in Berlin.

About 95% of my diet is vegetarian and I strive to maybe make the move to vegan. I believe in all the arguments for it, just need to come up with the personal will power. That being said I'd also hate to miss out on some opportunities while traveling and my manners will always come before my politics. It would be great to make my way through the full two weeks in Europe on a strict vegetarian diet and if I by chance meet up with the right people maybe that can happen.

I am rather active and athletic. I run often and I am looking forward to biking as much as possible through Europe. I work in an old building with multiple floors and no elevators and even in my home, my bedroom is up a circular staircase so I can move. I don't like to sit still for too long, even sitting here filling out this profile is driving me a bit batty.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

New to this site but after spending a bit of time on here I am starting to think i need to upgrade my old couch to a sleeper sofa and start hosting a few peeps.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Brand new to this site but no stranger to couch surfing. I spent my late teens and early 20's tooling around with small rock bands, which lead to many nights on floors and couches of gracious hosts. Occasionally I hosted a van full of sweaty rockers. Thanks to the proliferation of online social media, I've made and maintained friendships all over the U.S. I've found its much more fun to crash with and explore around new cities with friends. Atlanta has almost become a second home to me thanks to some amazing friends.

Music can be but certainly not limited to Cursive, Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Mono, Social Distortion, Hum, Yann Tiersen, mewithoutYou, Kronos Quartet,The Appleseed Cast, Arcade Fire, Portugal. the Man, Moving Mountains, Bloc Party, Placebo, Editors, Joy Division, Sunny Day Real Estate, VNV Nation, Lights Out Asia, Fugazi, depeche mode, The Cure, Clan of Xymox, The Smiths, Wolfshiem…

In movies and film i tend towards Documentaries or Fantasy adventurous, or political dramas.

Books again are all over the map from philosophical fiction to autobiographies, history and classic science fiction. Most recently some stand out are House of Leaves, Ishmael, Aldous Huxley's classic Brave New World.

I was visiting a friends family farm in North Carolina, late one Autumn. We were tooling one night, playing with long exposures on our 35mm cameras, yeah, back before digital completely took over. So a few days later when we got the prints back, yeah kiddos we had to wait days for those things, we were looking at them and so many of them as discoloration in the skies, we thought the labs must have screwed up. Surely not all three cameras and 8 rolls of film were defective. We were going to drive back to town to complain but my friends grandmother heard us, took a look at the photos and explained that is was the Northern Lights. Normally that far south you can't see it with your eyes, but apparently the long late night exposures picked it. Pretty neat.

I have to also list my first exerience seeing snow. As a Florida boy, snow was a foreign concept until my first trip to New York City as an adult. In 2005 I first visited NYC, my first time, first Broadway shows, first off broadway shows, Statue of Liberty and Christo and Jeanne-Claude's The GATES, in Central Park. Simply incredible!
