About Me

CURRENT MISSION

spread positive vibes

ABOUT ME

I am a musician. Here is a link to my ReverbNation Page which has some of my songs. I couchsurfed a few years ago in Greece and Turkey. I haven't for a while. I went to one couchsurfing party a few years ago but have been pretty inactive for the past few years. I am not in a position to host anybody but can show people around NYC if needed. I often perform music at night and do some form of studying or labor during the day. My schedule isn't concrete so you need to message me in advance.

My goal is to use couchsurfing to allow me to cut the costs associated with touring. I must admit that I feel a bit guilty since I have received more from the couchsurfing community than I have given and that I plan on continuing to receive more than I give. I hope to counter this as much as a can. I can introduce couch surfers to NYC's singer/songwriter scene or perform for any get togethers any couch surfer may have.

I live with my girlfriend in Queens. I am a tutor and a graduate student.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is life… na na na na na

I had previously written a lot here. I guess this section should be simple. I think being alive is beautiful. We get caught up in concepts that we use to label ourselves and allow the precious gift of the moment to pass us bye. Every waking moment of our lives passes us by as our mind is fixated on labels it has made to pretend to understand what and where it is.

I also like the ocean.
and bowling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have couchsurfed
I have toured people around New York City
I hope to contribute in the form of showing people around and performing music
I also hope to share rides and couchsurf in order to facilitate a musical tour.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first surfed in Thessaloniki with Matina
I than went back home to NY and spent Christmas time with my family. When I went back to Greece I was drafted into the army and sent to the border to keep the Turks from invading.... i was succsessful:)
Immediately after the Army I walked from my base to Edrine/Adrianopoli where I was hosted by Cem. He introduced me to a bunch of students at his school. They were all really cool and I was amazed at how friendly the Turkish people were. I don't know what it would be like were a Turk to do what I did, Evros seems to have a large amount of fascists but it might just be a result of there being so many soldiers there. As boring as the army was I am glad I was sent to an actual border and didn't sit on some island because I was able to not only see turkey but I got to see some Bulgarians who would come down for the river. Most Greek people think that obligatory service is BS but I think it is good because it keeps the army from being all fascist crazies and it forces people to realize that if there is a war they must fight themselves. This is a big problem here in the states where we make wars and have the poor fight them. Anyway the Greek Army was my worst Couchsurfing experience by far, they woke me up early and wouldn't let me leave.
I was hosted several times by Mixalis in Thessaloniki
I went to Athens and am staying with a friend there
I went to Thessaloniki again where I was hosted by Nasta
I am back in Athens
Now I guess I should put my thing for coffee and a drink in Athens because I have given something of a tour to two Australian guys here in Athens, both were cool.
Now I am sitting in Athens, I hope to start work soon and to save up so that I can travel some more. I am thinking Bulgaria and eastern Europe.... I really want to see Palestine as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am currently reading The Brother's Karamazov. I love the scene when Fyodr gives his rant at the monastery. I would love to see that re-inacted. Turning books into plays may be the best way to reach out the media-drenched human population. I don't even have a TV and I watch too much TV.

Sergio Lione, Angelopoulous, Also stupid/ funny movies like Friday, Animal house,
Music I like to play
Rembetiko, Blues, Irish traditional music, rock.
I like to listen to all music
Clubs
-jackson jackson
I like to blast
-rage against the machine
for my soul I like
-Kazantdidis
When times are really bad I sing Irish music and get a second wind.
I will add more to this section later.

BOOKS
Hemingway Conrad Orwell(1984 was the first book I ever loved) Shooting an Elephant is a very beautiful short story and should be read by anybody who has ever had to do any term of military service. Particularly if you are put by a border where you actually have to make decisions. Most importantly you must know it is true and realize the imact this even had on the man's life. I really think orwell and Conrad must be anylized as humans if you want to anylize their literature.

Vonnegate

Under the lions paw. A beautiful short story. I gave a standing ovation upon it's completion.

I am reading the Electric coolaid acid test. Light literature, it is a stone groove... never finished it because the book fell apart with a few pages to go.
I am currently working my way though the propaganda of Ayn Rand

dostyevski - also good for people put into military service.

oikonomou zisies- difficult, I am with my greek-English dictionary the whole time but absolutely beautiful poetry.
Stienbeck
Blake
Political literature

Wages of Whiteness, Roedigger
Kapital, Marx ... not dome
Capitalism, Bakunin
Sin Patron,... Larnaka collective
