About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Fill the world with creativity

ABOUT ME

I'm a freelance theatre set designer and an illustrator. Since December 2009, my career and life have changed significantly since I have been traveling with my husband who I met through Couchsurfing. (Yes, Couchsurfing!) Together, we are doing a volunteering charity project called 'Charity Travel' and I would like to use theatre as a key tool for sensitizing and educating children in developing countries... or anywhere in the world. Dreaming of traveling with my/our own small puppet theatre and perform wherever I/we go.

I'm quite relaxed, open-minded, extremely focused when I'm working but also extremely lazy when I want to... I am short and tiny (literally) but always try to be a person with a big heart. In the end... I think I'm RELATIVELY a good person. Well, it's just my humble opinion.:)

PHILOSOPHY

I do think a lot about how theatre can reflect and service the society and what kind of role it could play. I know it's a cliche... but I am serious about it. Boring, right? Well... I don't think about it ALL THE TIME.^^ Wait, but can you call it a 'philosophy'? Especially 'Personal Philosophy'??

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Met so many great CSers in my journey. It's so good to realize that people are genuinely nice no matter what's happening in this crazy world.

Interests

Theatre of course, especially Children's Theatre. Art, Music - I'm learning Korean traditional music!, Life, Collecting pictures of doors, windows, train station & barber shop. Learning languages (challenging French and German. Am I too unrealistic here??), Travel, Sleeping, Math, Human rights activities... Trying to learn lots of things as much as possible when time allows.

Music, Movies, and Books

*MUSIC - Music is taking a big part of my life. Music always inspires me whenever I'm on the drafting table in order to design my set.
I'm a ridiculous U2 maniac! If I could design the set for U2 concert, my mission on this earth is accomplished!
Besides U2, Pulp, Beck, Mandalay, Manu Chao, Cake, Kurt Weill, Stravinsky, early Stone Temple Pilots, Chemical Brothers, Electronic musics... Almost everything on KCRW's Eclectic 24 and recommended by Nick Harcourt. Would hear any kinds of music EXCEPT Celine Dion, Kenny G, Creed, Mariah Carey and a couple of others that I can't think of names right now - I wouldn't mind cheesiness but can't stand any kind of pretentiousness.

*BOOKS - Obviously many play scripts... Brecht, Chekov, Pinter, Gogol... early Bret Eastern Ellis, Pearl Buck, Douglas Adams, Raymond Carver, Korean writer Hoon Kim, Min Kyu Park, Sang Byung Cheon, Myung Kwan Cheon... Catcher in the Rye, 1984, Great Gatsby...
*MOVIES - Batman, Blade Runner, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Pelle The Conqueror, Naked Gun...

Wow... how can I actually pick things for each category? It's just too much for a humble hard drive of my brain...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

* Did cross country by car with my friend Rachel from New York to LA.
* Seeing children's faces with a hugh smile from small deserted islands of Korea, while they helped me to build and set up the sets when my production team went on a special tour for culturally-disadvantaged places.
* Cutting dead sheep's stomach with a big knife and taking all the internal organs out from it. I'm not joking. My job made me to do it and I don't think I knew what I was doing at that time. It's all blur...
* It wasn't amazing at all, but 911 in New York...
* Charity Travel - built an orphanage/community center with bare hands near Victoria lake in Kenya.
