About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Put down some roots in my native land, without feeling too grounded...

ABOUT ME

I am currently trying my hand at living a normal settled life in London, working a nine-till-five, pension scheme that sort of thing. It's not really working out so far, but watch this space...

I'm always willing to try something new, especially to try eating something new!

The longer I spend living in one place though, the more I start to worry I am growing up - now the new things I try often involve making jam, or homemade bacon, or growing flowers... my flatmate tells me I'm turning into a housewife, always in an apron.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is too short to take it entirely seriously...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Not quite as much as I'd like to these days...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Whilst in Buenos Aires CS provided the entirety of my social life, which ranged from serious chess matches to sweaty drumming madness! Good times. Now I'm back on home soil I'd like to repay a little of the kindness I found there.

Interests

attempting to wrestle with the spanish language, readin, writin, talking about things that matter and about things that dont. I get emotionally involved in cooking, extremely, tears have been known...

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS!!! books books books books. I like reading, or rather I have to have to have something to read, so my worst nightmare is a journey without a book. Even if it's a ten minute bus journey, I just don't feel comfortable. I all sorts of books: big books, little books, just as long as there's a story in there somwehere, and I sometimes get confused between my own life and whatever book im reading at the time, which can be inconvenient and leads to misunderstandings.

I also like to watch films, and though we don't have a television, Radio 4 is an almost constant companion.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When wandering disorientated through the ornate chambers of the sprawling temple at Madurai, entranced and overwhelmed by incense and iconography, I rounded a corner and almost walked smack into a live elephant. Painted with swirling patterns it had been trained to take coins from pilgrims hands, to touch it to their foreheads in blessing, then drop the money into the purse of it's handler. Impressive enough, but not amazing, at least not by Indian standards. Yet as I watched, this elephant began to urinate, a torrential waterfall that overflowed from an inadequate bucket pushed hastily into place and flowed freely over the temple floor. Truly, amazingly, hilarious.

Teach, Learn, Share

i would like to learn french, and like not to forget the little spanish I have learnt already, i can (almost) juggle, and make a passable tortilla español. im also quite good at writing limericks, and putting up shelves. Oh, and reaching things on high shelves - I'm quite tall.

Currently i'm learning how to be a beekeeper (we have two hives on our roof), though my teacher (flatmate) hasn't had too much honey-success yet...
