Обо мне

CURRENT MISSION

enjoy wandering and living life as interestingly as possible for as long as possible. keeping the dream alive and all that

ABOUT ME
My Afghani, Colombian, Bulgarian and Turkish hosts all went thru visa nonsense to come revenge surf with me so I must be an OK guest...
descriptions are way too confining and I'm far too random to pin myself down. I'm trustworthy and have a moral code of my own but enjoy mischief and school bus level peer pressure. probably best to check the references and loads of pics I put up to get an idea of what the Jason Wheeler hosting/ surfing experience would be like

PHILOSOPHY

seen too many people going thru life on autopilot, doing my best not to become jaded and appreciate things big and small for what they are when they are.

friends are the family you choose

my mom taught me to share...

Что привело меня на Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been very active hosting people and events. Sangria contests, live opera vs. Nebraska folk singer, stereotypical foodoffs and various other odd themes. Since my parents kickass I also hosted a 50 person CS camping music festival at their house and we regularly do multicultural costumed BBQs at their lake home.
lived the lifestyle for years before formally joining. I've housed, fed and entertained a lot of random people over the years as many people have done for me. While in Boston I enjoy breaking the routine of my non travel months and like seeing my city thru other's eyes. if you're not too proud to be a passenger I've given a lot of motorcycle tours of the area (easiest way to get to different parts of the city and can park anywhere) if you have a motorcycle license the company I work for rents bikes and I can probably get you a discount

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Host lots of CS events at my place in Boston
surfed in Bulgaria, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, afghanistan, pakistan, philippines, Ireland, Botswana and Colombia. hosted a lot in boston over the years and occassionally hooked surfers I hosted up with friends or family in other cities

Интересы

being out of context in a strange environment, new things/ food/ experiences...where does that road go? ..slow paced motorcycle wanders with no destination in mind...just about anything outdoor related...SCUBA and WHITEWATER have found their way into my life repeatadly. live music of many types. turns out I also enjoy beer and good conversation.
I enjoy sketching, journaling and climbing trees to read books.

Музыка, кино и книги

Don't know if staring at maps incessantly counts as reading...
biographies of random people, most of the beat generation stuff kerouc/ cassidy/ bukowsky, accounts of bizarre travel to inspire future trips...
think I enjoy good books and bad movies (books when I'm alert, movies for when my brainsis off or for something to make fun of) to many crap van damme movies on foriegn buses have rotted my sleep deprevied brain

Классная вещь, которую я сделал(-а)

Judging from audience response my most popular story would be the one about the king cobra in my bathroom involving a homemade crossbow and a ladyboy. This is not to be confused with the king cobra in my bedroom whose bite attempt I fended off with my camera while taking it's picture. I did manage to negotiate a "cobra discount" from the ladyboy that ran the guesthouse in the first instance, no luck with the stingy Belguims in the 2nd case even tho I prevented the death of thier 9 month pregnant cleaning lady.
if I had to pick a couple; 1. taking my mother to traveling for a few months after her sister passed. brought her to the cook islands, new zealand and Oz so she could regroup and see a bit of my lifestyle. As a bonus got her to skydive and got to see how proud of herself she was. 2. the overwhelming optimism and warth of people in the Ukraine during the Orange revolution. 3. anything I did with wildlife in africa. 4. I was mistaken for a member of Iron maiden in Bogota by a couple hundred screaming fans and crowd surfed with them (twice, I took a curtain call, would have been rude not to)
in truth too many to list, "why travel if not like a child, wide eyed full of wonder and amazement" J Kerouac
