About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Ending world hunger. After that, just lovin' what is.

ABOUT ME

Love to travel to meet new people and see how others make their lives, find joy. Travel is a way to relinquish judgements particularly about myself. It frees me for the most part to be me. As we move through these Earth changes and times, I see my purpose more clearly to be a catalyst to change our perspectives on hunger which is 100% preventable. Smaller is better, gardens nourish the heart and soul not just the body.

PHILOSOPHY

I live to experience myself in all its contortions, doubts, uncertainty, joy, pain, frustration, creativity and sorrow. Each moment is a surprise to me and I want to continue the experience of awakening to a new moment right now. It's not easy; I have doubts and fears like everyone but joy comes easier as I get older and self-doubts don't linger as long. Life is too short to doubt oneself or one's actions. Also, keep your women friends ladies and your men friends, guy. They are your true mirrors and support beams in life. Family, partners, children will love you sometimes, leave you, doubt you more often than not and resent you, but friends, true friends are the ones who say "Oh that's just her being her." How freeeing is that?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Whether offering to host or connecting folks, I'm a networker par excellent. If you want to find out more about life in New Mexico or just what's happening in around western North Carolina, get in touch.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Had the pleasure of several CSersfrom all over. Loved and enjoyed them all! Made my way across the country from west to East coast, always stayed with amazing people.
I learned about CS when I was in Ireland in 2008 and made some good CS contacts although wasn't able to stay with anyone over there. Now I can't imagine traveling anywhere without checking out my CS possibilities!

Interests

Music, dance, travel, gardens, teaching gardening, landscaping, healing the earth, and my children and granddaughters. Amazing creatures, grandchildren. And writing of course.
Natural healing, herbs and medicinals, and motorcycles. Love motorcycles. Water--especially Mother ocean.

Music, Movies, and Books

Finished up Paulo Couelho "The Pilgrimage" just as I got my backpack ready to walk on the Camino Santiago de Compostela this summer for 5 weeks.
Il Postino is beautiful and still one of my favorites. Crazyheart is crazy beautiful. And who isn't sucked into Downton Abbey must be living under a rock or seriously without an internet...
Any good French or Italian movie. Fascinated by anything produced by Independent Lens. Just saw "Queen of the Sun" about the decline of bees around the world. Exceptional!
Traditional music from anywhere--I'm learning the bodrhan--Irish traditional drum.
The books come and go depending on my interests at the time--I enjoy books on the spiritual connections with the natural world. My reading list is all over the board but most of my reading centers around growing things, sustainability, spirituality or travel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two of my children were born at home and I've been the midwife to 13 other healthy babies, a few calves and lambs. Walked the Camino de Santiago de Compostela on the Northern Route in 2013 and spent days with an agroecology tour in Cuba in 2014. Life amazes me each day the sun rises. This world amazes me. I even amaze myself from time to time.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a love for and talent with gardening and landscaping, organic growing. Just published my first book in August, 2012: "simply garden small!" on Kindle. It's a helpful manual on very small gardening systems employing recycled materials to combat hunger. The book includes important information on how to reverse malnutrition through the growing of the right foods rich in micronutrients.
The last four years were divided up between a couple of AmericorpsVISTA service years in Kentucky and Kansas and one year back in western North Carolina, which I consider my second home. I'm always learning form whomever, wherever I go.
Teach me a new dance step, share the history of the place you live--goddess mythology and herstory as well. Alternative healing, aromatherapy, herbs and medicinals, I can always learn something new.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Ask me about your garden. Aske me about the Camino or travel. I love to share cooking adventures and good wine. Not afraid to try new things and not a slob. And I clean up really nice so I won't embarrass you if we go site-seeing.
