About Me

NB: IF you can't reach me on here, feel free to send me a message request on FB - you'll find me with the same profile picture there! Kia Ora!

CURRENT MISSION

To mash up some metaphors, putting out fires on the many pots I've got on the stove! Come stay with me if you're up for spending a few days helping organise some of the beautiful chaos in my little paradise!

Right now I'm fully involved in several businesses between Whangarei and Auckland, so while big overseas adventures are out of the question for the next few months it is always nice to be invigorated by the presence of free-spirited travellers! What I should be doing is going on Helpx or Wwoofing and finding some long-stay visitors who are able to help out, but Couchsurfing is far easier to manage, so if you are looking for somewhere to pause for a week or few, and you're willing to put in a bit of your time in exchange for a place to stay and some guaranteed awesome memories, hit me up!

A couple of points to bear in mind before requesting to stay with me:
I am an omnivore with a carnivore bias, and while I am tolerant of people's various dietary requirements, I'm less tolerant of those who try to convert me or expect me to cater to their tastes (beyond picking the vegetables out on family meals). I come from a family of foodies and as a guest here you will almost certainly have a chance to experience my mother's legendary cooking (my parents live in a cottage on our three acre garden property). We also have HEAPS of animals around, lots of chickens and cats, and all the bugs to be expected of a subtropical jungle.

ABOUT ME

I'm pretty intense, always keen to get out and have new experiences. A lover not a fighter, although I'll always be a freedom fighter. There are very few things I won't try once. Also a bit of a party animal. Love the outdoors, hiking, skiing, anything that gets me away from the city for a few days.

PHILOSOPHY

Stop addressing the worlds wrongs with an "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff" through understanding what causes the wrong in the first place.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to do as much as possible and immerse myself in the culture of the places I go. Nothing depresses me as much as the insincere 'tourist' activities that are commercially available. After all, its the locals who know the best fun to have in their town!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have surfed, partied and enjoyed the vibe around the world. Hosted a few couchsurfers now and then but have had a break from that recently as I was unable to host in my previous flat. Also used to live in a CS-friendly flat where we had many good times - see Viktor Bentovolli on my friends list.

Interests

Cars, Hiking, Partying, Skiing, meeting new people.
I'm a patriotic Kiwi! When I am home, I do my best to take people to my favourite places, and when I am traveling I try to convince as many people as possible to visit NZ.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love every type of art and would happily read a book every day if I had time!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Arrived in a city I knew nothing about (Milwaukee WI) and found myself at an amazing backyard concert with my CS host within 2 hours of arriving.
Seen 86 year old Willie Nelson come out on stage at midnight and sing "Roll me up and smoke me when I die"
Driven 1200 miles across 7 states in 18 hours.
Taken a small rubber boat under a waterfall on Milford Sound in the South Island of New Zealand.
Drunk homebrew, smoked a joint, and eaten freshly caught octopus and breadfruit curry with the locals on Paea beach in Tahiti.
Driven a Mustang from Los Angeles to Vegas, partied for two nights with no sleep, and driven back early in the morning with the roof down to stay awake!
Bothy-surfed in Scotland, including an amazing spot on the northernmost tip of the Isle of Skye
Graduated from Auckland University after seven years of hard slog!
Organised a one week New Years camping trip for friends and couchsurfers since 2009.
