About Me

Novelty-seeking type who enjoys the outdoors and being straightforward with people.

I spent a large portion of my life living in the heart of Canada's grape belt (about a ten-minute drive from Niagara Falls and the American border). Lived overseas for several years and in Montreal for 3. Now here we are in Toronto.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm just curious about having unique encounters with people I might not otherwise get the chance to meet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been a member of CS for nearly 10 years and have surfed in Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Denmark, and Belgium. I have also attended CS gatherings in Poland and Latvia and given tours to surfers around the city of Wrocław, Poland.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a lil' bit of everything.

If I whittle music down to a few favourite commercial artists, then it's Andrew Bird, Talking Heads, Billie Holiday, Timber Timbre, Neko Case, Pixies, Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Devendra Banhart, ELO... Stuff like that. I like Delta Blues, variations of country, freak folk, experimental techno music, lots of classic rock and and pretty much anything with a violin in it.

Favourite films include a lot of Danish titles. Aronofsky's Pi, most films by Larry Clark and Abdellatif Kechiche, Gummo, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, Enter the Void, The Bothersome Man, Pulp Fiction, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lola Rennt, and many great documentaries.

Books by Khaled Hosseini, Fall on Your Knees by Canadian author Ann-Marie MacDonald, Player One: What Is to Become of Us by Douglas Coupland, Chimamanda Adichie, Oliver Sacks, Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind, Over the Edge of the World... Not many classics make the list; I usually reach for modern novels, scientific literature and travel memoirs, biographies, etc.
