About Me

CURRENT MISSION

L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N

ABOUT ME

I'm a fairly laid back guy originally from the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.

Melbourne is my spiritual home but I haven't called it home for 10 years now. At the age of 22 I escaped the prison of suburban life and made a move for the wild north west of Australia, where I spent 3 years cutting my traveling teeth by getting up to all sorts of mischief in the outback. From there it was 5 years abroad taking in: New Zealand, a large number of locations around Europe and even studying Wilderness Guiding in Finland. In 2011 I returned to Melbourne for a short time before heading off in a van to explore a little more of my own country, which ended with me returning to Western Australia for work.

I try pushing myself out of my comfort zone as much as possible - which can be a hard thing to do – but often find the rewards of doing so, outweigh the discomfort of breaking out of my inhibitions.

I can be a bit of a quiet, introspective soul from time to time and tend to take these moments outside in nature where I can listen to the sounds of the world at work; or to a space where the music can match my mood.

PHILOSOPHY

Never trade the thrills of living for the security of existence.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm guessing like most people my first CS experience was as a surfer. I initially heard about it while in Spain and thought of it as a great way to meet local people in each city, rather than be trapped in a hostel with other tourists. I went on to surf for the first time while traveling through Northern Europe and Scandinavia and would never have guessed how much CouchSurfing would change my life. I have lived in a CS flat, hosted, surfed, travelled with other Surfers and partaken in CS community events. CS has been such a great experience and (while my level of involvement varies from time to time) I don’t plan on stopping.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I host, I surf, I partake in CS community events - all of these have given me some wonderful experiences.

Interests

The outdoors and all the activities it has to offer, but particularly: climbing, kayaking - both touring and white water - hiking and bird watching.

I have a real love (no talent) of music and my vinyl collection is slowly growing but it's not selective as I’ll listen to anything twice.

Food is another, if there is one thing I really love about travelling it is the different types of food you get exposed to.

Photography, I've been told I take a good photo and I do enjoy it but I find I have to be in the mood for it and the photos are more to help my crappy memory anyway.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music that is generally not played on the radio, I still buy CD's and have kept up the habit even while travelling, they're getting a little busted up in my pack though.

I'm a big fan of George Orwell but when it comes to book generally I have to find the subject or story interesting, I can't finish a book just for the sake of finishing it.

Movies that make you think or question your own beliefs but the occasional dose of humour and senseless violence don't go astray.
