About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live well, travel, die fast and broke

ABOUT ME

I'm strongly opposed to the exploitation of both the people and natural resources of the world, especially in the way it has been done to the benefit of so few people.

Socially conscious and have long been involved in volunteer activities. I spent several weeks as an American Red Cross volunteer in So-California during the wild fires or 2007, in Tennessee after the 2008 spring tornados and Iowa and Illinois flooding, as well as several hurricanes in Florida. Trained as a Red Cross First Responder.

I recently started college again, and earnedt a certificate in Criminal Justice: Internet Crime Investigation.

I like things that require physical and mental participation.I'm domestic, clean, neat and enjoy cooking, read a good deal, and enjoy moderately easy crossword puzzles and Sudoku. TV is only a diversion when I get really bored.

PHILOSOPHY

Live well accidently; die fast and broke.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosted first foreign CS guests from England in 2011 and since then, have had guests from Russia, N Carolina, Indonesia, Amsterdam, England, Utah, California and Minnesota.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I made a convoluted solo driving trip from Clearwater, Florida to the west coast and back in 2009. Spent over two months on the road and drove in excess of 10,000 miles. I was hosted by five CSers for a total of 15 days and had a wonderful time, meeting only gracious and interesting people.

In 2010, I made a Couch Surfing trek that took us from Phoenix to Montreal, Canada, on which we were hosted by 10 CS families, and had a wonderful time. We drove over 7,000 miles and spent about 20 days as guests of a wonderful bunch of people.

In 2011 we journeyed out again, visiting most of the major national parks up through Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Washington and Oregon, couch surfing again with what can only be described as incredible people.

2015 on the road again, 9300 miles solo trip through upper Midwest, east to Ontario, s to Tenn and back home, CSing again.

Interests

Aside my volunteer work, interests have involved dancing, fitness, and short distance bicycling. Recently I was introduced to golf and loving it so far.

Music, Movies, and Books

My entertainment interests lean to the zanny side with movies such as My Couzin Vinnie, To Kill a Mockingbird, A Fish Called Wanda, Harold and Maude, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Too many good books to even begin to list favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

While serving in the Marine Corps in Korea, I was able to witness the exchange of the first prisoners of war between North Korea and the UN forces at the DMZ shortly after the cease fire.

One of the dumbest things I ever did was to go into combat without a weapon. I was a Radio Operator, driving the commanding officer of an advisory group for the Korean Marine Corps. We made a landing on one of the contested islands off the west coast of Korea and was so preoccupied with other details, I forgot both my 45 cal pistol and my M1 rifle. Amazingly enough, when it dawned on me, I was more concerned about being discovered and Court Martialed than needing my weapon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would have to say that I do my best to encourage people to become involved in volunteering and sharing with them just how rewarding it is.

Countries I’ve Visited

Aruba, Bahamas, Canada, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
