ABOUT ME

Married, father of four. We scooped up one of the kids from an orphanage in Russia. Friendly and ready for whatever comes while traveling. Couchsufing helps to invigorate my soul when it is tired. I am fairly traditional with an irreverent streak. My dear wife of 25 years feels that travel is just a lot of stress - that's one of the only points on which we disagree. Generally she does not travel with me, but I would love it if she would. She does join me in doing NYC things. She tolerates my world travel (uh, only N. America and Europe so far). I am extremely lucky to have her. My 3 older children wouldn't mind if I was gone 6 months a year!

PHILOSOPHY

Give everyone a chance, even those you have already labeled. (G. W. Bush, Michael Jackson, Al Gore, Putin, ... all have/had people who love them). Anyone can be redeemed.

Anything worth writing is worth spelling correctly.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am unable to host at this time, but I find other ways to spread peace. Typically, people visiting NY feel that I am located too far from the city.

CSers have met me n the city and have met up with me to cook out at the beach in summer.

Interessi

Languages, computers, very small cars, history, science, films, beer. Believer in God and humans.

Musica, film e libri

Movies, books: Nothing I have seen or read has been a waste of time. Lars von Trier has done some pretty cool stuff. Russian and German movies. Fringe-y stuff but not Warhol type of fringe-y. What Hollywood produces is actually OK.

Music: Nearly anything from 1950's - 1980's. Satire! Tom Lehrer is a fave. My wife and I see many concerts (recently Paul McCartney, Moody Blues, Fountains of Wayne, The Police, Rolling Stones, Queen, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Diamond, Elvis Costello, Sting, Meat Loaf, Jethro Tull, Elton John, others that I forgot). As for newer stuff, I know what I like but I don't take note of the names of songs or artists.

I have enjoyed opera at La Scala, the Met, and the Bolshoi.

Broadway is nearby, and I have seen many shows.

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" was set in my hometown. The setting of the movie was much more urban than the real Rockville Centre.

Spray painted lots of graffiti on a suburban part of the Berlin Wall in 1988. My friends and I thought our artwork would be there for 50 years at least.

Eldest child is on her own; youngest one is in preschool.

I witnessed 2 attacks on the WTC from across the street, and my building was evacuated and damaged in 2001.
