CURRENT MISSION

Waking up in the morning, going to bed at night, and doing what I like in the middle

ABOUT ME

I love love LOVE to travel and meet new people. I am usually pretty happy and easy going. I am a bit of a geek, with a love of scifi, which inspired me to work toward a degree in Physics and Astronomy. After high school I joined the Air Force which I was a cop in for 4 years in Florida at Patrick AFB/Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, where, along with typical police/security duties, I got to watch rockets and the shuttles take off, as well as bump elbows with important people like astronauts, senators and Obama himself. While in the military, I made sure to see at least 1 country a year which included Italy, Ireland, and Afghanistan (although, that one was more of a business trip).

After four years, I decided the civilian life was more my style, and I headed off to Europe for a multi-month bike trip where I lived off my bike and got in GREAT shape. I developed a love of long distance biking and of Germany (where, due to my horrid sense of direction, I ended up for most of my trip) The trip was one of the most freeing senses of travel I have ever had, since I did no planning whatsoever, and just went where the bike path took me.

I currently live in Athens working toward my degree, and I live with my boyfriend who is not active in the CS community, but I hope to expose him to it.

PHILOSOPHY

The world may ask "why?" but I ask "why not?"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have not been very active in the CS community since I left Florida 3 years ago, but I would like to change that! We have a house that is just outside the reaches of city bus transportation, but if you have a car we are about 15 mins from city center. We have a spare bedroom, which is currently my work room, but it gives privacy. We also have a fairly comfortable couch.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed in Ireland, and Italy as well as gone to CS get togethers in Switzerland, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, and France. I was also fairly active in the Orlando CS group prior to moving to Georgia

Interests

Music, Movies, and Books

Bob Dylan, Mumford and Sons, Norah Jones, Bright Eyes, Avett Brothers, Mountain Goats, and O.A.R. Anything with a piano or acoustic is almost automatically a good song. Movie wise, I love just about everything except scary movies or super gory movies

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching a shuttle launch just after sunset. Very beautiful.

My entire euro bike trip. I went over without a plan, and never planned more than a day in advance. I biked through, and stayed in villages so small they had never met people outside the local community. I saw sites that were unbearably beautiful. I lived with no responsibility and constant excitement (as well as constant leg pain from those swiss Alps!)

I also think my experience at a nudist festival in Florida is worth mentioning! I am the kind of person who will always try something (at least) once. I went with plans of meeting up with other CS'ers, but when they backed out, and I had driven over 2 hours to get there, I couldn't back out. I sat in my car for probably an hour to get the guts to get out of the car and strip. Once the clothes came off though, I realized just how easy it is to be naked with hundreds of other people. I made great friends, and was so comfortable with everyone! It was truly a great experience.
