About Me

Support women's football in Peru
follow @abrircielo on Instagram and TikTok.

I am living in Villa El Salvador, a district of Lima Peru with about 800,000 population. Forty years ago this was the most dangerous community in South America. It has been gentrified to a large extent. The locals from the gringo areas of Lima still consider it dangerous. Taxi drivers in Miraflores and barranco often refuse to come here. I consider it home. I go walking around my neighborhood at night. It is generally impoverished but it has amazing people and some fantastic restaurants. If you are adventurous, you should come visit.

CURRENT MISSION

Support adult women's football teams in Villa El Salvador Peru with uniforms and tournament prizes.

@abrircielo is an effort by Morelia and Andrea to find sponsorships for these teams. Every follow helps them.

ABOUT ME

I am a want to be wanderer. Kinga Freespirit is my idol. You can google her if you don't know who she was. She had a fantastic life, albeit far too short. I had the pleasure of traveling with her a few times before she died. She inspires me.

I have been to over 80 countries so far and I would like to visit them all. One of these days, perhaps I will.

PHILOSOPHY

Memories are the only thing that I have that are worth anything. I want to accumulate as many of them as possible before my time is over.

Some of my best memories come from my worst mistakes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I tell other people about couchsurfing and get them to sign up. Its only been a few people so far, but its a start.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted a surfer and had a great time. I haven't surfed myself yet. I have traveled extensively and stayed with people I have met over the internet, but only a few of them through couchsurfing.

Interests

I like listening to people's stories, and reading, and doing things I have never done before, except sky diving and bungee jumping. I am afraid of heights, so I will leave those experiences for people who actually enjoy them. I get no pleasure from fear.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to music of any kind, but never pay attention to titles or artists. I liked Cashback, some british love story, even if it probably qualifies as a chic flick. I love to read, but do so for the immersive experience. I am not so good at remembering the details of the books, or authors names, or stuff that normal people remember.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Racing donkeys in Petra, Jordan with my then 14 year old son is one of the most amazing things I have done in my lifetime. The locals in their stalls were cheering us on as we whooped and hollered, galloping the donkeys back to the entrance of Petra.

Scuba diving on Cleopatra's palace in Alexandria, Egypt.

Another was arm wrestling a Bedouin at a sidewalk tea shop in Giza.

Sleeping on a beach in Northern California on the way back from a road trip to Alaska, watching the satellites flashing in the light of the already set sun as they whizzed across the sky.

A vegan picnic beside the road in Slovenia or maybe Serbia with Kinga Freespirit.

Having a party in a train station in Belarus as we were getting kicked out of the country for not having a visa.

Driving through the Painted Desert in those magical moments after a rain when everything is in brilliant bloom, listening to J. Stuart Hunter talking about his incredible life adventures.

Participating in a court hearing by phone while standing on top of a pyramid in Mexico does not quite qualify as 'amazing' but it is 'unusual' which for me is close to the same thing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to teach English. I am not very good at it.

I would like to learn spanish. For now, I just wave my arms and make faces when I am traveling in spanish language countries. I have lived in South America and Spain for a year now, and occasionally people can understand me when I speak Spanish. Sometimes I can understand them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am easy going and low maintenance.
