About Me

Hi,

I'm Guilherme or just Gui, as my friends and family call me.

I've been living in Germany for the past 10 years, swapping between Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt, and since last year back in the capital.

What else...I'm a vegetarian and I love cooking. I still wanna learn Japanese. I love animals. All of them (cockroaches not included). I love music, singing, dancing, watching good movies, being (politically) active and engaged or just being with my family in Brazil or friends. I have the tendency of reading the same books a lot of times. I'm rather that guy with few, but very good friends. I graduated in Urban Planning recently after being really disappointed with the level of eurocentrism and lack of self-critique in the Social Sciences in Germany. And yes, lately I've been quite involved with topics involving urban issues, racism, intersectionality, white privilege and post/decolonialism.

I'll probably end up living in an eco-village in the middle of nowhere with a lot of self-grown vegetables and a small animal sanctuary, but right now I think I'm still too much of an urban creature for that tho. I'm a passionate cycling lobbyist. I'm a bit indecisive, I dream a lot and I love meeting friendly, different, inspiring, conscious, engaged people and maybe that's prob why I'm still a member of this platform.

PHILOSOPHY

Respect, learn, listen, change, love, feel, question, laugh, share, resist, experiment, enjoy, preserve, create, deconstruct.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I got to know the project by chance, in Brazil, in 2008. Götz was the first Couchsurfer I've met, in the same year. I had the opportunity to host people in São Paulo, Berlin and I've been surfing many 'non-official' couches in São Paulo, Rio, Helsinki, Munich, Amsterdam, Cape Town, and also had the opportunity to surf lovely couches in several different places.

Interests

Bicycles, nature, languages, anti-racist activism, intersectional feminism, queer poc solidarity, city maps, public transportation systems, photography, (modern) dance and several Pina Bausch pieces, a lot of music, decolonial and postcolonial stuff, small independent cinemas, architecture, sunsets, squats, female singers with powerful voices, tea, ayurveda, vegetarian cooking, indigenous peoples and cultures, silence, deserts, forests and the ocean, talking to strangers, children, independent fashion, learning anything new, street art, politics, massage, pilates, animals, the universe

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to all this: last.fm/user/mahabharata;

I love Truffaut, David Lynch, Fatih Akin, Bergman, Antonioni, Wim Wenders, Truffaut, Kieslowski, Almodóvar, Haneke, Fellini, Pasolini, Woody Allen, Godard, Muriel's Wedding, Lars von Trier, Lukas Moodyson, Wong Kar Wai - ok, I'm actually quite biased towards Western male directors here and should be changing this slowly. I also love "Central do Brasil", one of the best movies in Brazilian history.

Books: where to start? All I can say now is that Americanah was the best book I've read in the past year.

What I Can Share with Hosts
