About Me

Lean chaotic good, like Mary Poppins but not a woman, magical, nor British.

It’s helpful to read my profile with a sarcastic, jokey tone. Please don’t take anything I say seriously or literally.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet other weird people to do weird things.

Interests

Eating things. Cooking things. Seeing things. Doing things.

I’m a city person and like doing city things.

I’ve biked in nearly every city I’ve lived in or visited. To be clear, I bike as a means to transport myself and not for recreation.

Music, Movies, and Books

I hate The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho) and will argue with anyone about it. Please ask me about other books I hate.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Somehow wandered my way from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar. Rode a terrible train through the Gobi desert. Didn’t even bring a book or anything. Do not recommend.

I’ve taken a Tokyo train during rush hour. Do not recommend.

I’ve gone to a free Brooklyn art party where a man rolled himself in a rug and expected people to step on him. Recommend with reservation.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a PhD in public health, so I can bore you with that or details from my dissertation on injection drug use. I can also provide some statistical consulting. A lot of my academic work involved talking to people about their experiences, so I really like to get to know people. Seriously, I know way too much about illicit drugs.

I am a decent spotter at the gym. I can help with your deadlift, squat, or bench press but my overhead press needs work.

Oddly, the one thing I’ve consistently cooked successfully in other countries is Los Angeles-area Mexican-ish food. A whole family in Australia, that I did not know prior, still talks of the experience.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, France, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
