About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To become fluent in German, move to Berlin, and spend the rest of my life there.

ABOUT ME

Things about me: I talk in lists.
Other things about me: I'm not organized with my thoughts, in the least. See below.

My name is Matt and I live in Texas. Don't confuse me for a native Texan though, because I'm not one. I was born and raised in Phily and moved to TX in 2009 for my job. I work in the oil and gas industry, which should be no surprise seeing as how almost the entire city supports it in one way or another.

I'm laid back and love to have a good time and try new things...one of my favorite things in life is meeting people and learning about new cultures. It's safe to say that I'm an "E" on the Meyers-Briggs scale.

My love of food has led me to some interesting experiences. Snake in Vietnam, intestines in China, fermented fish in Sweden...I'll try anything once.

Mein Herz gehört zu Berlin (und Deutschland). I have a weird obsession with Germany (especially Berlin). I lived in Berlin for six months in 2007 and fell in love with the city and country. On several occasions since then, I've tried to relocate for school and work. I'll be successful one day. My life wouldn't be complete without me visiting once per year.

Sometimes I come on too strong when I meet people - but I'm working on it. I'm a talker, but I'm also a listener and genuinely want to learn everything about everything.

I semi-hope that despite the randomness of the topics of this section, you can see that I'm a very normal, fun, outgoing guy who just likes to have a good time and enjoy new experiences.

Wenn ihr aus Deutschland, Österreich oder der Schweiz kommt, oder ihr sprecht ganz gut deutsch und habt viele Geduld, dann bitte schick mir eine Nachricht auf deutsch.

PHILOSOPHY

You're only on this earth once...try everything once!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to participate in the community as much as possible. I'm not always around to make it to Houston CS events, but when I am, I make it a point to go and meet new folks.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It excites me to learn a new language, try a new food, and communicate with people from countries I would never have dreamed of. I have met so many people from all over the world, and it never ceases to amaze me the value they bring to my life.

My first surfing experience (Berlin) was an interesting one, but nevertheless one that provided me with a lifelong friend and experiences I will never forget.

My first hosting experience was AWESOME. To this day, I still talk about how my surfer actually got me to go out on a weeknight, which at the time was unheard of for me.

Interests

Germany (bzw. Berlin). Learning a new language. Talking to people. Exploring the world. Trying new foods. The list goes on and on; all around interests revolve around fun activities with fun people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ate snake in Vietnam (restaurant worker literally picked out of a jar, strangled, gutted and bled it into vodka right in front of us). A co-worker of mine ate the still-beating heart.

Teach, Learn, Share

Drum & Bugle Corps: Feel free to ask. If you know what it is, chances are we'll get along very well.

Embarrassing fact about me: as much as I enjoy watching sports, my athletic abilities lack for a normal guy my age.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, China, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russian Federation, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Viet Nam
