About Me

I like to trust people. I like silliness and tolerance in myself and others. I like kindness and I like to get the feeling of seeing only part of a much bigger, mysterious, but somehow consistent and beautiful picture. I love being around people and touching their lives in more or less significant ways. I try to experience all those things by travelling and hosting.
I used to do a lot of hitchhiking and some vagabonding, and enjoyed the freedom of it.

PHILOSOPHY

We shouldn't take ourselves too seriously.

And, with regards to Korakor: Spread your love, always, everywhere.

If we want to solve the world's most serious problems we need a lot of love and work.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing might have changed, but we can still use it to connect, bring the world together and help each other really get to know life in different places.

Interests

I'm a book addict and read a lot! It's always thrilling to read something you couldn't have thought of yourself and to be challenged by new ideas. I like films for the same reason. Silly or deep, both have their own charm.
I enjoy silly and serious dancing, to almost whatever music there is.
I occasionally play the guitar and like to draw. I am also an enthusiastic amateur at card and coin magic and always grateful to learn and try new tricks. One other thing that fascinates me is hypnosis.
I admire the martial arts and used to do some Wing Chun. Lately I love Parcours, although I am not very good.
I'm not an accomplished cook, but usually I manage to get by quite well with whatever is available, and there isn't much that I won't try at least once. Eating is probably my most prominent vice.

Music, Movies, and Books

A few that just come to mind

Books: Against the day, Great Expectations, Hard Times, Vanity fair, most of Terry Pratchett's works, The Dark Tower, A midsummer night's dream, Much ado about nothing, Lamb, Fool, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, The picture of Dorian Gray, Ansichten eines Clowns, The selected works of T.S.Spivet, all books by Neil Gaiman, Skippy dies, Little hands clapping, The second coming, The amateurs, Cryptonomicon and so far everything I've read by Neil Stephenson

Music: Die Ärzte, Knasterbart, Frédéric Mesnier, Unduo, La rue Ketanou, The Darkness, Queen, Blink 182, Sum 41, Less than Jake, Save Ferris, Reel big fish, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphies, Real McKenzies, Infant sorrow, the Fratellis, the arctic monkeys, lots of 20s, 50s and 60s music I don't know the artists of. Depending on what I feel like Rock, Punk, Ska, Folk, Jazz, Blues, Pop and in betweens.
There's a world of unknown music out there, I'm sure (and I hope) most music I like I don't even know yet.

Movies: Austin Powers, Wayne's world, Hot fuzz, Shawn of the dead, The boat that rocked, Pulp fiction, Kill Bill, Snatch, RocknRolla, Mean Machine, Get him to the Greek, Stranger than fiction, Dodge ball, Old school, Blades of Glory, Zoolander, Superbad, Van Wilder, Be cool, El Mariachi, Pirates of the Caribbean, Matrix, Dead poets' society, Paprika, The Great dictator, Limelight, Modern Times, City lights, South park, Watchmen, Spiderman, old Kung Fu movies, Shoot'em up, Sin City, The nightmare before Christmas, Scott Pilgrim vs the world

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seing Mount Fuji from some small nameless mountain summit surrounded by the wilderness of Tanzawa Mountains, panting and sweating but feeling that I can get everywhere in this world walking.

Breaking the surface of a frozen lake in the middle of nowhere in Mongolia and shoveling mud into a truck for hours to get the horses minerals in winter.

Being a street performer and sleeping on streets across Europe.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: some songs on the guitar, some very simple magic coin and card tricks and of course as much German as you like, basic hypnosis

Learn: Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, Russian
I'd like to learn everything extraordinary or useful in any way, songs or poems, magic of all kinds, whatever there is of unusual medical knowledge, fighting techniques, good cooking receipes and things I can't even imagine at the present... your trick for whatever you are good at.
