About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Working on making a difference

ABOUT ME

Interested in diversity! I like to try new things but recognize that I don't always like the results. Don't ever ask me to eat whole, boiled okra for example. Once was enough!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by being inquisitive. Joyce and I enjoy traveling and have visited many places. I am looking to find ways to use the CS environment to further the CS mission, one exchange at a time.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In some ways I am new to "CouchSurfing." I have traveled to new and distant places while staying with friends but it is going to be different to stay at places and make new friends.

Interests

Planning a trip to Spain during Summer of 2014. Hoping that I can connect with locals to create an itinerary of activities to keep us occupied for a couple of weeks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ignoring the advice given by the local tour director and mixing with the locals in India... and over time, watching others doing the same.Strapping a GPS on my wrist and walking away from the hotel in Delhi. Finding a young boy, surrounded by family, getting his first hair cut. Walking along side a Brahma bull (big horns when you can reach out and touch them!) down the neighborhood street - so narrow at times that I had to let the bull go first (the polite thing to do).Rejoining my group at the Jama Masjid only to find them turing their backs on a group of boys (tour guide's advice again), me walking away from the group to sit along the wall with any boys interested, and sharing my language with them... they were students wanting to learn.Walking back to the group and seeing the pain on their faces when they realized that they - university academics - had turned their back on an opportunity to share their knowledge because of fear.Watching each member of the group pairing up with a child as we walked through Varanasi. Hearing one child exclaim "You speak Spanish? Can we please speak Spanish? I need to practice Spanish more than English!" and seeing traveling companions touched by the experience. Priceless!
