About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to effectively hold my skirt down in windy weather.

ABOUT ME

The least I have to offer is a smile. I'm really big on the daily battle of being humble.

QUEER

Finished my degrees in International Development and French, am currently in an accelerated nursing program at Hopkins in Baltimore, am going on to become a nurse-midwife and a sexual assault nurse examiner and researcher in domestic violence & health.

I love learning. I'm intense, passionate and am forever becoming myself. I really enjoy conversation and connection. I love story-telling and being outside and exploring. I love challenging myself and those around me. I'm always open to hear new opinions and learn.

PHILOSOPHY

Be humble. Don't worry about saving face. Forget about short-term fixes, serve long-range goals.

ACT UP. FIGHT BACK. Justice for everyone. Assimilation does not equal equality.

I am deliberate and afraid of nothing.

Music, Movies, and Books

RiotGrrrrl. Double Duchess. Anything queer or different or screaming about unjust bull shit. Dirty lo-fi punk.

"I was raised by books." -Lewis. I read a lot.

I don't like movies much, but I often watch TV shows. I've had short term addictions to Dexter, True Blood, Breaking Bad, Louie, Boardwalk Empire and most anything HBO churns out. Who says you can't learn from TV? Media can be a monstrous evil but is an equally subtle tool of power and change.

I like documentaries. How to Survive a Plague. We Were Here. Invisible War.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I delivered a baby in the dark with a headlamp and some gloves in Nicaragua and was sprayed across the face with placental blood when we cut the cord. Better than Sea World.

The Berlin holocaust memorial and Sachenhausen concetration camp. Completely and utterly humbling.

The community, warmth, generosity and solidarity of the queer and feminist activist communities.

I witnessed the terror, fear and poverty of living in occupied Palestine by my extended family and their friends. I understood nothing about life until witnessing a war-torn country.

I've worked with countless brave and courageous rape survivors, refugees, domestic violence survivors, HIV + individuals, trans* identified individuals, homos and dykes and countless other people who have faced so much hardship and pain and still find joy in life. Constantly amazed by the people around me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can play the violin, basic guitar, cook a mean curry and speak French and some Moskito dialect, all of which I'm happy to teach anyone.

I know a lot about queer/feminist shit and being a queer feminist against all forms of social oppression. I'm always happy to share.
