About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Freedom and love, peace and respect.

PHILOSOPHY

Aim for perfection and accept that you'll never reach it. Treat everyone as best as you can - how you want to be treated isn't necessarily how they want to be treated, and neither way is necessarily best for anyone. Change is good and bad but it is wholly necessary and inevitable; make the most of it. All roots go as deep as time; never stop looking. Fear is useless - do everything you can to get rid of it and replace it with strength and comprehension. Live hard, love everyone, respect everyone whether you love them or like them or not. Consider every angle of everything, real and imaginary, and never give up. The stronger you make yourself, the more open you can be, and the more open you are, the stronger you become. It's a beautiful cycle. It can be really hard to get in. Keep trying - there are a million ways. Ask me, we'll figure it out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host if I can, and I'm always up for meeting people, chilling at concerts, showing you around, whatever you're into. I've traveled some with CS and I really appreciate the hospitality I've experienced, so I hope I can give some of that back.

I'm pretty not into the new CS administration and its system, but it helps to use the old couch search system: https://www.couchsurfing.org/mapsurf.html?form=advanced

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Bees knees, straight-up. Some of the best people I know are Couchsurfers. One time a guy rescued me from Luxor hustlers, set me up with a cup of tea on the roof of his hostel and offered a free room til whenever. Another time a lady offered me a couch before either of knew the other was a Couchsurfer and gave a 24 hour tour of Caernarfon's music scene. There is no such thing as a boring Couchsurfer. I've hosted a series of excellent guests, been to some wild events and made some very good, lasting friends. Couchsurfing is like having family in every city and little town on earth.

Interests

Music. Words. God by any name. Love, consciousness. Sensation. Colors, shapes, natural lines, man-made environment. Real connections, anarchism. Collective liberation. Honesty, conversation. Sustainable agriculture. Everything green.

Music, Movies, and Books

If you haven't read the Autobiography of Malcolm X, please do. Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Coleman Barks' translations of Rumi are also must-reads.
I don't watch movies much but: Moulin Rouge, Once, The Science of Sleep, Lord of the Rings, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Graduate, and probably a few others I've forgotten.
Music is my favorite drug and I am flat-out addicted. I'll listen to anything at all, but I usually prefer acoustic vs. electronic and art vs. entertainment.. I'm into folk, punk, blues, classical, griot, hip-hop, basically some of everything. Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, Sufjan Stevens, Bassekou Kouyate, Hamza el-Din, Fleet Foxes, Sharon van Etten, TV on the Radio.. Steve Reich, Hoots & Hellmouth.. if it takes me over, I'm into it. Let's trade!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the Red Sea at Ain es-Sokhna a pod of dolphins swam almost up to the beach at sunset and played with us in the shallows, circling and jumping in tandem and flipping and twisting in midair. They're beautiful, incredible creatures. I feel blessed to have seen them so close, pushed around by their wake, even to have interacted with them.
Also the lights flying out of Boston at night. To see that quantity of human life organized from that perspective and each experiencing their little part of the world from that distance is overwhelming.
I have some good trespassing stories, but maybe ask about those in person.

Teach, Learn, Share

I like to get really, really deep into conversation - basically my goal is to question and theorize and question again until I can't think by myself any further, so if you have any subject you want to explore every inch of, let's do it. I want to learn more about language and languages, and I'd definitely like to get your view and learn some of whatever you speak.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Food, foraging, beer, back massage, always encouragement to dance.
