ABOUT ME

I'm a creative, spirited, person. I love to grow and get to know new people. Last year I visited Yosemite and hiked up Yosemite Falls; the natural beauty was transformative! I want more!! My massage mission is 'grace and ease of movement for all'. I am very involved in my Unitarian Fellowship. I love community, I love a good dinner party (both as host and as guest), I love reading good literature (Barbara Kingsolver ALL, Michael Lewis{MONEYBALL, LIAR'S POKER, ), Walter Isaacson STEVE JOBS} .
I'd like to travel more and really connect with people. I have a great community here at my UU church-like-place and am really involved (choir, property, was on board 6 years). I'm loving watching Downton Abbey.
A few years ago I took up playing the piano again. My mother was aging and I knew none of us last forever, and I would greatly miss her fab piano (she was esp great at ragtime). So I took up playing, tried lessons but found more satisfaction and progress on my own. I especially love the complex rhythms and harmonies of Cole Porter. A friend who is a great pianist alerted me to Bill Evans (of the 60's) and I got a CD of his I play all the time.
I love Thai and Indian food. I've got two great Suns, both grown and married and doing amazing things.

PHILOSOPHY

Wow, this is challenging: I believe that each of us has universes inside, that everyone longs to be understood. I believe that each of us represents one of the infinite ways of being human in this world and therefore we can broaden our experience and enlighten ourselves by getting to know each other in meaningful ways. I'm a bodyworker and believe that our culture understands bodies in only a superficial way. I believe life's experiences (inner and outer) create form and shape in our body (and vice versa). I believe that we owe it to ourselves to support growth and learning and exploration and adventure throughout life. To many people settle in and just 'do time'.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm looking forward to adventure...hosting... more if time and inclination permit. Recently had a great experience hosting a young man from England. We had a great time playing the piano.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had two wonderful experiences hosting here in DE (one of my guests was a musician and we played piano for each other, he was truly fab!) the other became a great friend and member of my church-like-thing. I had a wonderful experience as a guest in Mariposa, CA from which I hiked Yosemite...truly awesome.

Interests

I won a gift certificate to 'hot yoga' last year and finally took it in January of '12, after that I bought it on my own and am loving it! It's changing my body in ways I would never have expected. Currently I also watch the stock market like a hawk. I love my massage work, and I'm really involved with massaging at the VA Hospital. I do a lot of reading about it (Tom Myers ANATOMY TRAINS, John Lutz, Stanley Keleman EMOTIONAL ANATOMY). Also love hiking, reading, gardening.

Favorite movies: Casablanca, Crash, Slumdog Millionaire, Fisher King, Lonestar, The Usual Suspects, Charlie Wilson's War.

Music: any, I love to harmonize (I'm an alto). Classical (Mozart, Bach), Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, folk, showtunes. I'm learning (again) to play piano, loving "I've Got You Under My Skin"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived for a year in Hungary, which opened my eyes to how much each of us is a product of the culture we happened to grow up in. One of my favorite trips was a graduation present for my Sun, we went to Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce. I took a belly dancing course. I have taught couples massage courses, which was great seeing the way touch can support deep connection and intimacy. I have done some hiking on the Appalachian Trail, in the Southwest, in Maine, and in the Rockies. An 'moment that left me awestruck': seeing the Northern Lights in Alaska.

I know massage, I love to cook, I can sew, garden, hike, trade perceptions with frineds. If you find your comfort zone, destroy it.
