About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Husband and wife team on a journey around the world to explore everyday life of its people. Special interest in photography, street food, fresh markets and microfinance.

ABOUT ME

We are two curious Americans on a journey around the world to explore its people, places and cuisines. We lived and worked in Prague, Czech Republic for five years and have been traveling around the world since December 2006.

Although we enjoy seeing beautiful buildings and landscapes, the focus of our journey is more the people we've met along the way and what we've learned from them. We also love learning about cultures through food and fresh markets and have been known to cook up a mean Thai curry.

We also run a travel blog/website that chronicles our journey through stories and photos: http://UncorneredMarket.com

PHILOSOPHY

Try to live my life with purpose and to give back. Our current travels are driven by a curiosity to find out about the world firsthand instead of reading about it. We hope to use this knowledge and experiences for some sort of educational purpose and make other parts of the world look less "scary" than what some may see on the news/traditional media.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We would like to participate in couchsurfing to learn more about places we visit from local people, people who really know where the best street food is or where the fresh market is located or how to get to a historic sight by public transport. Most importantly, we'd like to understand the culture and lives of regular people in a place.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

For the first few years of our journey, we didn't participate in formal couchsurfing through this website but had lots of experience staying on the couches of friends of friends in places like Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, China, etc.

Through a recommendation of a friend with tons of Couchsurfing experience, we got involved here and have only had great experiences with fun and warm hosts. We usually leave as friends.

Interests

Local foods, fresh markets, wine, street food, local music, hiking/trekking, walking around cities, photography, learning new languages.
