About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To host and meet as many great people as possible!

ABOUT ME

I'm 25 years old with a near-useless undergraduate degree in Psych and Film Studies from Dalhousie University. I love watching and discussing film. I love music and history, and have made it a personal priority to teach myself all the history I so neglected during my academic years. After three amazing trips around Europe in two years including three months living in Berlin, I'm now hard at work making music and having a great time here in Halifax!

PHILOSOPHY

Without being too specific, my personal philosophy is that life is people, that the people around you are what makes life worth living. I also believe that one must experience as much of this strange and wonderful world as possible during the short time we are given, even if that means embarking on crazy adventures once in a while or attempting to cook a dish many notches above your skill level.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After hearing about this from a friend I immediately signed up, thinking it sounded like a great idea, and so far it has not disappointed in the least! My couch (spare room) is open to any and all fellow adventure seekers with a friendly disposition and a smile.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed across Europe for three months last year and 1 month this spring and it was the most incredible experience of my life, as I figure out where I want to go next I'm all too happy to host anyone who happens to be travelling through Halifax!

Music, Movies, and Books

I adore movies and try to watch them on a regular basis, sometimes with unsuspecting friends in tow. My favorite filmmakers include Malick, Lynch, Bresson, Altman, Kubrick, Bunuel, Herzog, Tarkovsky, Renoir, Von Trier, Denis, Wong Kar-Wai, Fassbinder, Kurosawa, Cronenberg, Scorsese, Kieslowski, Kusturica, Godard & Coppola.

I listen to music constantly and am in love with The Beach Boys, Radiohead, Brian Eno, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Talk Talk, Dirty Projectors, Miles Davis, The Clientele, Fennesz, David Bowie, The Band, Grizzly Bear, Bob Dylan, Animal Collective, TV on the Radio, Tom Waits, Van Morrison, Joanna Newsom, Beach House, Max Tundra, Jens Lekman, Bjork, Fela Kuti, Spoon, M.I.A., Yo La Tengo, Daft Punk, Vampire Weekend, Stars of the Lid, The National, Boards of Canada, Phoenix, The Knife, Ghostface & Arthur Russell.

Books: I humbly admit my many shortcomings in this category, and am working on reading more and more: Oliver Twist was a recent read I really enjoyed, I must read more Dickens. A friend gave me this book called Jonathan Strange which was about magicians but completely riveted me, great read. Someone else gave me a book called When We Were Orphans which was also really good, and yet another friend told me I must read Malcolm X's autobiography, which I did and it was great. I recently read All the King's Men and thought it superb...I also just finished Don Quixote after three challenging months, it was also great. Throughout my travels I slogged through the thoroughly difficult but not without merit Pilgrim's Progress and also read A Little History of the World, which delivered exactly what it promised and was awesome. While in Poland I read through Empires of the Word, about the history of languages and that was intense but great. Recently finished Gulliver's Travels which was a lot of fun, most recent read Pride & Prejudice; Fantastic. Reading right now: The Art of Travel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My father decided to move our family to France when I was 7 years old even though neither he nor my mother could speak French, it was wonderful and I've wanted to return ever since to recapture this magic land of my childhood.
