About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To raise my baby to be nothing like her old man, and to allow her the freedom to realise that she has no limits to what she can do!

ABOUT ME

I didn't realise it's been so long! Time flies even when your miserable! (joke). I'm married now. We enjoy travel, food and people, different cultures and foods and the learning how to cook them. My most memorable experiences are of cycling from Brussels to Malaga alone for 4 months, but never really alone. I met the most amazing people and experienced some real human openness and kindness. It was a journey of unintentional self discovery, it was as if I was under the microscope and my perpetual evolution was revealed to me in those four months. The following year I thought I could reproduce that magic by cycling from Florence to Palermo in Sicily. It wasn't so! It was July and too hot and mountainous, but of course it had it's magic too. Then in 2007 I went to Burma on a whim. It was pure paradise for me, not I must add for the Burmese who live under horrific oppression. It was the peace I felt there, and the Buddhist philosophy of the people that helped me realize how blessed I am, even when I think I'm not. I went back in 2008 for another month of sitting and watching. I went to the North this time to Katchin state and the town of Myitkyina. From there I spent five wondrous days boating down to Mandalay on small boats with local families. Sleeping at night in the open where it seemed like the stars were touching the horizon. I have never been so touched by a country and it's people in all my travels. Many of my travels, or most of them have been journeys of escape and accidental self discovery. The best therapy I've done. I'm also interested in natural healing, Reiki, meditation and personal development. I don't drink any more. It's better. I will have a social cigarette occasionally but generally try to live wholesomely, and in harmony with the people around me. Doesn't always work!

PHILOSOPHY

Just for today I keep it simple, and hold onto the fact that nothing ever happened in the future!

Be not inhospitable to strangers lest they be angels in disguise.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think couchsurfing started in Ireland! My grandmother used to do it as did my late father and it rubbed off on me too. All my life I have always given beds to strangers. When I was a taxi driver I often gave my couch to people hitching or stuck at the station. It was always fun and interesting. We get so much back when we give. In Paris now I live in what I'd say is a box to most. We have a nice fold out sofa which is comfy. My daughter is with us most week-ends which makes it difficult to host, but friends are welcome for coffee, herbal tea and dinners. We love to cook, and Thai curry is a house speciality.
I'm happy to help and advise when I can, and hope to get more involved when we move to a bigger apartment.
I have time for coffee and guiding and advising people so drop me a line.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed with Ginger in Savannah and what a joy and wonderful experience it truly was!
