About Me

I'm a recording engineer and geek. I love being involved on all sorts of projects (work and purely fun) and new ideas get me excited and motivated, although another new idea can potentially pull me off the current one. (I refer to myself as being "imminently distractable".)

I live and work in a small town and really love it. I know practically everyone here, it seems like. It really charges me up that it takes me 45 minutes to walk three blocks to the post office, since I'm always running into great people and taking a moment to chat.

I grew up in Southern California, but didn't belong there; Northern California is much more my speed. After 17 years of driving, I sold my pickup truck three years ago and have been making a good go at not owning a car. In 2008, I bought a new bicycle and have really enjoying returning to 2-wheeled mobility. In 2012 I bought a Harley-Davidson Sportster. Still 2-wheeled, but just a wee bit faster. ;-)

Oh, and I can be pretty silly, although it is more likely to come out when someone sparks me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm interested in both surfing couches when I travel and having interesting people visit my great little town. I've made some great friends through CouchSurfing over the past several years.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed in Norway, Sweden, London, Glasgow, and Australia, all with outstanding experiences. My friends and family are a bit weirded out at the concept of staying with someone I've never met, but it's led to some some great friendships and I've had amazing adventures this way.I have also hosted many surfers on the World's Comfiest Sofa™. I especially have fun hosting folks from around the world, as I enjoy learning about new cultures and feeding people Eggo waffles, corn dogs, and root beer!

Interests

Eggo waffles, corn dogs, and Entenmann's chocolate donuts.

Music, Movies, and Books

While I enjoy reading occasionally, it's not a passion for me. My favorite books are The Long Run by Daniel Keys Moran, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Finnegans Wake by James Joyce, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll.

Music and movies are a big passion of mine, though. My favorite types of music are novelty songs (funny tunes, like Dr. Demento plays), heavy metal, and folk music. My favorite bands are Dream Theater, Anacrusis, Echolyn, Oingo Boingo, Depeche Mode, Fats Waller, Spike Jones and his City Slickers, and lots more. And I love good comedy and funny music, so I'm a fan of Weird Al Yankovic, Emo Philips, Roy Zimmerman, The Foremen, George Carlin, and many, many more.

Movie-wise, I love to laugh, so comedies are the most appealing to me. However, I can watch most films without an issue. My favorites are Love in the Afternoon, Drowning By Numbers, Harvey, Groundhog Day, and Kitchen Stories (Salmer fra Kjøkkenet).

I don't watch TV anymore, but there are plenty of old shows I adore. They include Columbo, M*A*S*H, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, The Muppet Show, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Banacek, McMillan & Wife, The Adventures of Pete & Pete, and Northern Exposure.

That leaves food. I eat out a lot, as I don't like to cook. I prefer comfort foods, like mac & cheese, grilled cheese, and quesadillas (see a theme there?), but also love good Mexican, Italian, and Chinese. I'm partial to all styles of pizza, but my favorite is LoCoco's baby clam pizza. Yum!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've had a charmed life so far. I studied sound for film & video, worked in my field, ended up building my dream recording studio, have worked on three Academy Award-winning films, and have had a few opportunities to travel.

I'm looking to expand on that last item quite a bit, since I haven't seen as much of the world as I'd really like to.
