About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a laid-back, friendly, respectful and tidy guy, who likes to travel.

I don't ask for much, just a place to stay while traveling. I must confess, I'm not much of a party guy (a non-partying Mexican, go figure), but have absolutely no problem if you are.

I like movies. A lot. Mostly watching them. But also writing them! ;-)

I'm a screenwriter. I've written a few short films (DORIS, CAMPEÓN), a feature film RECUPERANDO A MI EX (Mexico, September 2018) and several tv shows for Telehit-Televisa: CUENTA PENDIENTE, LOGOUT_ and LOGIN_ (all currently available on the Blim streaming service).

I directed my very first "big" short film back in 2018. It's called EL ÁRBOL, and we shot it in the middle of the desert with a team of 47 people under a 35ºC sun (oh, the joys of filmmaking).

I also enjoy reading sci-fi books. A few years ago I had archery lessons. I was more or less good at it.

I like eating. Pretty much any kind of food. Ice-cream, specially. Sushi too.

.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't have a philosophy in life. I'm too naïve to have one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Mostly by offering my services to test couches all around the world! ;-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

2012, went to California: Los Angeles - San Francisco and back. Stayed at a few places thanks to Couchsurfing. Great experience!

2013, went back again for a second time LA-SF, but didn't get to couchsurf because travelling with the family.

2015, I went to Comic-Con (attended the Star Wars Concert front line) doing a road-trip Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego (Couchsurfed here), then back to Monterrey. It was awesome.

2016, went to Real de Catorce, México, then traveled north, all the way to the Mexico-Texas border, visiting different border towns along the way.

2017, traveled through Europe: 17 countries, 24 cities, several really cool Couchsurfing experiences.

2022, Guadalajara. Amazing city, amazing host, amazing time. Walked a lot.

Interests

- There's no easy way to put this, but I'm a Star Wars fan. A starwarite. A warsie?
I can control myself in public, you know, keep appearances and act normal. But in private, I'm a hardcore SW nut.

- I like walking. That's how you get to know a city. And by eating its food, right?

- Movies! I like movies. From the biggest summer blockbuster to the smallest, most obscure indie film.
Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, M. Night Shyamalan (yes, him!), Guillermo del Toro, Takeshi Kitano, Jalmari Helander, Cary Fukunaga, Billy Wilder, Walter Salles, Woody Allen, Lukas Moodysson, Bong Joon-ho, Carlos Bolado, David Lean, Park Chan-wook, the Coen Brothers, JJ Abrams, Akira Kurosawa, Tomas Alfredson, Taika Waititi, Steven Spielberg and Joss Whedon (go Browncoats!) are some of my favorite directors.

I also enjoy what Adam Reed (ARCHER), Alex Hirsh (GRAVITY FALLS), Michael Schur (PARKS & RECREATION), Dan Harmon (RICK AND MORTY), Greg Daniels and Tina Fey (30 ROCK) have done for tv lately. Also, Netflix. I don't have Netlfix at home, but I sure watch their shows.

- I also like reading sci-fi novels (and some non-sci fi too): Bryce Courtenay, John Irving, Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. Leguin, Neil Gaiman, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Orson Scott Card (sans his political views), Nelson DeMille, Arthur C. Clarke, Walter M. Miller, Joe Haldeman and Daniel Keyes (only read one novel from each of the last four) and the man himself, Jules Verne.

Music, Movies, and Books

There are too many movies and books to choose just "a few". Just too many.

MUSIC: I like film scores. John Williams, comes first to mind. I once went all the way to LA just to attend one of his concerts. Then there's also the incredible Michael Nyman, the great Alan Menken and the awesome Alan Silvestri.

I like The Swell Season too. And Smashing Pumpkins. Muse, definitely. The Beatles. Always The Beatles.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Amazing things I've done? Hope these count:

- I collaborated with a local newspaper when I was 13 (entertainment section);

- I ran a Harry Potter website back in 1997. I closed it after a year. Too many e-mails asking if I was Harry Potter or if I could help out with a spell... really?).

- I once wrote a 70 page screenplay in less than 24 hours. It wasn't by far a good first draft, but I did type it all in one sitting.

- In 2009 I went to New York City for only 36 hours; I managed to squeeze a visit to Central Park (and the lake), got wowed at MoMA, visited Ground Zero, Wall Street, got a paper umbrella for my niece at Chinatown, zoomed by Little Italy, Washington Square Park, gulped down a hot dog from Gray's Papaya, walked along the Brooklyn Bridge, bought a book at the Strand, went up the Empire State Building, bought another book at Barnes & Noble on 5th (that took a while), stood by Rockefeller Plaza expecting to see Tina Fey at any moment, went into Saint Patrick's Cathedral, visited the Apple Store and bought nothing, jumped on the giant piano at FAO Schwartz, had some cheesecake at Central Station, got lost on the subway, and arrived to Times Square... big and mighty Times Square, just in time to experience sunset while sitting at those red stairs.

In 2014 I went again, but this time for a few days.

In 2015 I went on a road trip. Drove all the way: Monterrey - El Paso - Phoenix - The Grand Canyon - Las Vegas - Los Angeles - San Diego - Monterrey.
Watching the sunset at The Grand Canyon is one of those things that you'll never forget.
Went to Comic Con (San Diego) on that same trip. It was my first time ever, and I got to see Peter Capaldi and Steven Moffat at the DOCTOR WHO Panel, and while I didn't get to see Kevin Smith nor the Gravity Falls or Archer Panels, I did get in to the STAR WARS Panel after spending the night standing (or sitting or laying) in line by the Marina.
We (those of us in line all night) didn't know if we'd get in.
But we did!
It was a joyous morning!
In the afternoon, after crying a bit (seriously) at watching JJ Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan introduce the cast of The Force Awakens, we (all 7,000 souls in Hall H) were treated to a Star Wars concert on the Marina (oh, the irony!).
Since I was one of the first to leave Hall H, I got to be right at the front of the concert stage. I have a commemorative lightsaber to prove it (we were all given one), a lightsaber which touched the lightsabers of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Domnhall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fischer and Harrison Ford themselves.
It was awesome. Plus, there were fireworks and John William's music.
An epic day it was.

- 2021 & 2022 went to the Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara. Had a great time, o both occasions.

- But I also went to Disneyworld when I was 12. Nothing has compared ever since.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not so sure I have a "unique" talent. I can write a screenplay (and recently, direct as well).

But pretty much anyone can write if you put your mind to it. But to write consistently, that's the catch.

I just do what I like doing and try my best at it: making up stories that will hopefully, luckily end up on the screen.

.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Um... I can bring traditional candy from my hometown?

I surely can talk about my city and country (if you're into it), or have conversations in Spanish (if you're into that as well).

I'm pretty much game. When I go on a trip I wanna learn as much as I can from that city / country.
