About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To dance around the world, meet people, sing always, and constantly do new things

ABOUT ME

I'm traveling around Europe for a year collecting sword dancing! If you want to learn more you can read about it at starofswords.wordpress.comSinging and dancing are my life. I have spent a good deal of my life at camps for folk dance and song. I like hanging out with people who teach me new things. I have more amazing useless talents than anyone probably should.I am endlessly fascinated by people.I love travel, cooking, reading, contra dancing, and learning about culture(s).I study music and dance, and want travel to be a big part of my life.I get excited about nerdy things, I enjoy urban exploration and can have good conversation endlessly.I am good at getting people to open up to me, interested in freeganism, and have been thinking a lot recently about radical honesty.I can teach you to juggle, breathe fire, walk on stilts, or do human pyramids.I'm really excited about new friends and adventures, I look for people who will share in those with me.I want to find people who will expand my world, show me new things, encourage my interests, have new conversations and present different views, and help me discover life. I avoid people who shrink my world.

PHILOSOPHY

Traveling, like singing, is most beautiful when you do it with others.

I want to try things i have never done, meet people with radically different life experiences, and expose myself to all sorts of new situations

I am struggling with the concept of Radical honesty.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm always amazed by the kindness of the people who have taken me in on CS and off of it. What a wonderful gift!
My introduction to the concept of couchsurfing came when i was a teen and spent months on tour with singing groups Village Harmony and Renewal where I stayed with 50+ families across four countries. I love being part of someone's life for a day or four and don't want to do it passively. I want to sing, cook, stay up late, clean dishes and hear your stories. Making friends is reason to travel enough!

I haven't gotten to host yet, but when I return from my travels I look forward to meeting new folks that way!

Interests

My first love is folk dance; Contra, English, Scandinavian, Balkan. I have recently gotten into Contact improv and Tango.
I love to sing. Anyone can sing! We will sing!
I love cooking and eating really good food, preferably organic and fresh. I'm experimenting off and on with freeganism
I am a juggler and do partner acrobatics
I've been told i give a good massage.
If you know how to tango and want to help me or are interested and want to learn, i'm your guy!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Einstein's dreams, Thusday next series, His Dark Materials, Lord of the Rings, Marx

I like traditional folk music from all over. The important thing for me is that music should be participatory, not passive. Sing it, play it, hum it, strum it, dance to it! Don't just listen

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Paying tribute to a tribal king of a Ghanaian village in CDs was pretty unique experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning new things of all sorts, if you have something unusual to teach, I want to learn it. Right now my main focus is learning spanish and tango, so if you can help out (or want to learn with me) I can't wait to meet you!

I love teaching people useless things and i have a lot of them. If you want to learn to play music your face, juggle, do French-Canadian foot percussion, partner acrobatics, all sorts of dance and singing styles, or maybe some organic music, I would love to teach you!
I can teach you some American sign language, how to pick locks, and how to cook a bunch of stuff.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belize, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, Venezuela
