About Me

I grew up in SoCal, went to college in Boston, spent a year abroad in Freiburg (southern Germany), spent a year Munich after I finished my BA, taught English in rural Switzerland, moved back home and worked with kids and museums and such, moved to Berlin in 2012 for my Masters. Currently writing a documentary play as my MA thesis and translating/editing on the side.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've got a nice couch in my shared apartment in Berlin and have people crashing on it at least once a month, and I love getting coffee and showing people around!

A cop in southern Spain who tried to convince me to move to Spain and teach his countrymen English

A bunch of students in a sort of occupied-ish house in southern Germany

Copious cups of coffee all over the place

Music, Movies, and Books

The Graduate, Annie Hall, Eddie Izzard stand up, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Angels in America

Joanna Newsom, Simon and Garfunkel, Belle and Sebastian, Ben Folds Five, Mountain Goats, Rilo Kiley, Elliott Smith, Joe Pass, the Decemberists

The Count of Monte Cristo, ee cummings, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Bill Bryson

There's more, obviously, this is just what's coming to mind at the moment. I watch a lot of crime TV and read a lot of non-fiction....lotta politics, lotta history...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Alsace with my family, an elderly couple who owned the small winery we stopped at regaled us with tales of their childhood during the war, the problem being they only spoke French and German, so I had to simultaneously translate into English so everyone got some sort of idea of what was going on. Combine this with lots of wine, my not perfect German skills at the time, a serious tendency on the part of this couple to ramble/incorporate hard to translate sexual innuendos, and more wine.

Teach, Learn, Share

Theatre games! I am a huge theatre nerd, but not the type likely to break out into song at the wrong moment.

I'm fluent in German, studied Spanish in high school and love picking up bits and pieces of different languages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

It is a childhood dream of mine to learn how to use a pottery wheel. If you teach me how to make pots, I will paint you one, AND make you soup after! I just bought a new Stabmixer/handheld blender and am deeply, passionately in love with it.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In
