About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ever onward.

ABOUT ME

I'm home and I've been here for just over a year. I'm still fairly new to this largest city in Canada. I live on the outskirts, but I would love to host a traveler. I'll be visiting Scotland in May and I'll be looking for a place to stay. It would be great to return the favour.

I spend a lot of time outdoors, on my bike, exploring the neighbourhood, the trails, and the waterfront. I've found some great places in this part of town. There are some good, diverse, and very inexpensive restaurants out here. I'm about an hour from the city centre on TTC.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to surround myself with good music, good friends, positive people, beautiful things. I work hard, I'm dedicated, and I always try to live in the moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed couches in Australia, New Zealand, and the Yukon. I've had a great time every time. I would love to host, but I've always lived in small towns, rural settings, cottages, and now the subburbs.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have a few friends involved in couchsurfing and they are all wonderful people. This gave me faith in the community before I set off to travel for awhile. I've met some great people through this site. They've all shown me interesting local places that I might not have found otherwise.

Interests

The outdoors, cooking, playing rugby, knitting, Hockey Night in Canada, cycling, music festivals, camping and cottage weekends, roadtrips to new places, hiking all over the place, making cherry pies, making everything, swimming in the evening, swinging in the hammock all afternoon long, and playing catch.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: documentaries, anything arts-y the local indie theatre is playing, Eagle vs. Shark is the story of my life AND pretty much everything I know about day-to-day living in New Zealand (well...this was true at one time). I watch more TV shows than movies, though: The Office, Arrested Development, Weeds, Battlestar Galactica (I'm a bit of a geek plus I'd like to be bestfriends with Starbuck).

Music: Bruce Peninsula, Library Voices, The National,
Shout Out Out Out Out, Modest Mouse, Calexico, Dan Mangan, the list goes on.

As for books, I read a lot of non-fiction science-y books. One of my favourites is Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything. I came across an illustrated edition once and didn't buy it. Then I found out that it was a special edition and now is impossible to find. Someday I'll own a copy. My new favourite book is All My Friends Are Superheros. I read it last Sunday morning while my friend was sleeping in. Plus it's set in TO.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Right now I'm the President of the North American Native Plant Society. I'm including it here to up my geek cred. If that sounds interesting to you, let's hang out.

Teach, Learn, Share

I always like to share my skills. Some of the things I teach on a regular basis include: biology, ecology, and knitting. I know a lot about my local environment, but I would like to get to know more about completely different ecosystems too. I like to hike around and find scenic lookouts.
