ABOUT ME

I am a keen outdoors lover and always have been. I grew up in the countryside in the Far North of New Zealand surrounded by farmland, bush, rivers, and the ocean was nearby. The Ocean has always been close which has led me to where I am now working on big Sailing Yachts around Europe and the Caribbean. (hopefully the Pacific and Indian Oceans soon) In my teens I went to School in an outdoor specific High School in the South of NZ in the mountains. This was the first time I had lived away from the Ocean (Lake Wanaka) but I loved all the outdoor acivities like climbing, mountain biking and especially snowboarding. After school I studied Photography at an Art School also in the south. The lifestyle was very outdoors and I took up surfing, which I have now done a lot of in Australia, Europe and the Caribbean. I also love fishing and have recently gotten into scuba diving! So now I am traveling with these interests very much in mind! And meeting awesome people along the way is always a highlight. I have been traveling for 2.5 years and think I will continue until I'm 30!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before I knew of couchsurfing.org I had already done lots of couch surfing around NZ, its a part of growing up and also pretty common in student life and ski towns. Since having this profile I have used it a few times mainly to host surfers. It has been good but I am really excited about surfing (couch and ocean) around Europe this year!

Interests

I'm really into art, music, photography, surfing, snowboarding, getting out in nature. I'm an active person so anything outdoors makes me happy, looking forward to taking all my skills and interests around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music with originality skill and made for the love of it. (not really into the commercial music machine) All kinds of roots, reggae, dub, kiwidub, indie, classic rock from the 60s and 70s (the best musical period in history) funk and soul, hip hop, love a live gig, and a bit of rave music here and there. Books: into the Wild, Fear and Loathing, Davinci Code, sea adventure books, I need to read more! Movies: Docos, surf/snow films, some comedy/action/hollywood crap when there's nothing else to do on the boat!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One thing that comes to mind is swimming with a pod of Killer Whales (Orcas) at home in NZ. We followed them in a small tender for a while and then jumped right in with snorkeling gear. There was a baby whale who came right up to us to check us out. There was also a big bull who dove down real deep and came up soon after with a 6ft shark in his mouth! He then dropped the shark in front of the calf whale for it to eat! Amazing experience I'll never forget!
