About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see and experience as much of the world as possible.

ABOUT ME

She wore rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes. And I knew without asking she was into the blues.....
I'm about to start a 3 month journey through Mexico and Central America. I am currently living in Mexico City, but before that I was working in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I work for an organization that does reproductive rights work in Mexico City. I recently finished a Masters of Public Health/Masters of Social Work program-I am hoping to use these degrees to travel more! Before graduate school I spent two years traveling Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Bolivia before returning to the US. This is also when I also got my first taste of couchsurfing! I plan on spending the next few months in Mexico and Central America before going back to New Orleans to do my PhD in the fall.
I try to be a very open-minded person and I believe that every person has something they can teach us (I know everyone says that but that doesn't mean it isn't true!) I'm at a period in my life where I want to experience as much as possible and where I want to try and be as flexible and open as I can about the experiences I have. I hope to keep traveling and continuing to learn from other people and cultures for the rest of my life!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host Couchsurfers at my house in New Orleans and I have hosted a few times in Utah, where I am originally from. I almost exclusively used couchsurfing while traveling the past few years and have had a wonderful time with it. I've been hosted by couchsurfers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. I was also quite active in the couchsurfing community in La Paz, Bolivia, New Orleans, US, and Addis, Ababa, Ethiopia when I lived there.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CS made my traveling possible and added a lot to my adventures! It is a wonderful way to travel, meet people and share experiences.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to the Kumbh Mela a few years ago in India. It was the largest gathering of humans on the planet and I ended up bathing in the Ganges with thousands of other people. It was intense but I loved it and all the lovely families that took me under their wing...This last year I went to Tigray in Northern Ethiopia and climbed up to these amazing churches carved out of the rock on the top of the mountains- they are by far some of the most spiritual places I've been to! hmm...what else?...well this may not be super exciting but I've been thinking a lot lately about how almost all of the most wonderful and important conversations I've had in my life have taken place on the floors of kitchens. I think everyone should try and have as many interactions in kitchens as possible...in the end I think everything can be amazing if you look at it right.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking and feeding people- I hope I can cook for people while couchsurfing and learn more about different types of food. I currently live in a co-op with 12 people in the Treme and we all take turns cooking meals, and eat together. I love having big meals with lots of people talking and enjoying each other. I am a vegetarian but am not judgmental and don't care what people eat themselves. I got my BA in psychology and am interested in learning about alternative types of therapy- I would love to talk to others about their perspectives on healing.
