About Me

Trying to do all the things to benefit only when others do as well, not the usual way [it actually makes life much easier]
I'm addicted to the world of ideas, always trying to bring every small event into some bigger picture [and I like to take pictures too]. In the same time always appreciating things as small as a sparrow on my window sill [Or at least I try to take picture of it]
While travelling I mostly look for something to explore a little, let it be a small mountain path off the main routes, some deserted factory or a village, which is so far away from tourists and big cities, that no one speaks English there, not even the English teacher. Some underground music event sounds like a good idea for going out to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've both hosted and surfed quite a lot and you know - there are really great people living in this world

Interests

I studied and I work in environmental protection and education.
Most of my interests are related to the kind of lifestyles we would need to have to live sustainably - reading, art, discussions, simplicity, travelling, shorter working hours and lower consumerism. Mostly very happy lifestyles they are.

I love geography, both the cultures and people and landscapes and geology under them. As a slogan of Yukon says - it's all "Larger than life"

Music, Movies, and Books

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is the band which keeps fascinating me with their music and the way of making it. But then there is music which is mostly about having fun - there comes folk, punk rock, reggae, indie rock and lots of experimental stuff

I like what you would call the festival films, mostly happen to read non-fiction lately, but I really like Dostoyevsky, other classics, Recently discovered Rebecca Solnit from modern writers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Norway for a week in January [temperatures varied from 0 to -20 C] with hand luggage and 250 kroons [enough for two good meals there] and managed to hitchhike some 600 km

Teach, Learn, Share

I sometimes teach argumentation and lecture on sustainability topics. How to live sustainably and persuade others to do so might be the name of my teaching programme

I can also teach you to appreciate and learn how to play go (baduk)
