About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get out of debt while still having fun.

ABOUT ME

I live with my super awesome boyfriend, work during the week as a mechanical engineer in oil & gas, and try to spend as much time with good friends at home hanging out, or out watching live music or having some beers. But really I'm mostly a homebody and watch a lot of Netflix.

Music is my favourite thing in the world. I sing very well, write some pretty bad songs, and play guitar horribly. I've been learning the baritone ukulele lately and I like that more (although I'm still terrible at it.)

I LOVE discovering new music.

I love to cook, and especially, I'd love to learn recipes from all the places I travel. My boyfriend and I have a much-neglected food blog: www.thisurbankitchen.com.

What else about me... I'm a generally positive person, I like to keep informed, I'm laid back and flexible, I'm high energy and I have a loud laugh.

PHILOSOPHY

This is the only life we get. Better make it count!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed a bit, hosted more than a bit and just generally love the concept.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've met some incredible people over couchsurfing.

I've hosted a few people either on my own or with my roommates in Calgary, and it's always really rewarding.

I have surfed a few times in North America and a couple of times in the UK, and they have all been really good experiences. WAY more than just a free place to stay.

Although I hate the new website. Grrrrr.

Interests

Music, cooking, traveling, drinking, science, dogs, tortoises, skepticism, song writing, meeting new people and learning about how the world works.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I'm not much of a movie person, but my all-time favourite movie is "When Harry Met Sally". I think I know every single line by heart and it never fails to cheer me up.

My second favourite would have to be The Fifth Element. Because it's rad.

Current favourite TV shows: Archer, Arrested Development, Cosmos.

Books:
I should read more.

Music:
Frank Turner, Justin Townes Earle, Lady Gaga, Rilo Kiley, The Gaslight Anthem, Dwight Yoakam, Gomez, Jack White, The Black Keys, Imogen Heap, Broken Bells, The Shins, Esthero, Puscifer, The Dixie Chicks, Stars, The New Pornographers, Mumford & Sons, Of Monsters & Men, Ray Lamontagne, The Steeldrivers, Tool, Jenny Lewis, Imaginary Cities, The Coppertone, Haim...

...And many, many more that either I'm not listing or I haven't discovered yet! :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sky Diving over Fox Glacier in New Zealand, Standing in Red Square in Moscow at 4am with a light snow looking up at St. Basil's Cathedral with not a soul around but me and my guide, Writing on the graffitied walls that separate the Protestants from the Catholics in Belfast...

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to introduce people to some really good Canadian bands, and to cook a delicious Canadian meal.

I would love to learn a recipe for a dish from your country, and also to discover what local music you like.
