About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Specifically we want to relocate the the Seattle, WA area. Generally we want to travel, meet amazing people, be fullfilled and live our passions! Which include creating art, eating delicious food, experiencing life through other cultures and perspectives!

ABOUT ME

Rick and I met 9 years ago when we worked at the Old Spaghetti Factory. We've lived together since then and got married Oct 1, 2010! The next big adventure for us is moving to Seattle! (or the surrounding area)

Random talents: Rick played the alto saxophone for 13 years (go marching band). Annie competed in Highland (Scottish) dancing for around 10 years.

We divide up our non-work time between seeing movies, reading (sometimes to each other) books, eating, and hanging out with friends (playing Rock Band or the random board game of the night).

Rick is a computer guy who is teaching himself the programming language C#. Annie is trying to be an artist. If I ever finish school I'll go for a career in Illustration.

Rick is an amazing cook! (thankfully, or I'd spend all my dinners with a box of Kraft Mac and Cheese) He likes to try new recipes and will eat anything once. I've expanded my horizons in terms of adventurous eating in the years we've been together. And when I met up with a friend to travel Europe I didn't want to be the annoying one always going to McDonalds or something.

PHILOSOPHY

Answers are all around us. You just have to be brave enough to look. Life is better the more you experience of it and the more ways you see it lived. Travel and meeting people can only help you to understand others and even to understand yourself better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Once we get an apartment in WA we'll be hosting. Until then we're surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We went to a couchsurfing sponsored event in LA called Pancakes and Booze. We drove a couchsurfer who needed a ride. It was a great night! Cool underground art in a minorly dodgey looking area, which made it all the more exciting! Really cool art by nondiscovered artists, cheap drinks and free pancakes. So much fun! Glad we were able to help Kevin out with the free seats in our car. He was a really nice guy! And so patient with the awful traffic we got stuck in on the way home!

Interests

We love going to art museums and art shows. We love anything book related, like authors' readings and wouldn't mind joining the Seattle Public Library's book club when we get up there. We read the whole Harry Potter series together (I know they're kids' books. I don't care)
We're looking into joining a food group in Seattle too. Rick is a great cook. Some of my favorite things he makes: garlic soup, crispy pork chops, home made pizza, vegetarian lasagna, green chicken cheese enchiladas, beef pot pie, wheat bread.

Music, Movies, and Books

Going to the movies is kind of our thing. We don't mind seeing bad movies sometimes. Favorites of ours have a really wide range. We love 80s classics from our childhoods like 16 Candles, Breakfast Club, Clue, The Goonies. We love modern visually stunning movies like The Fountain and 300 (come on, it was cool looking). Also old Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn movies like His Girl Friday or Breakfast at Tiffany's. Comedy, action, foreign, some dramas. Rick is getting into some Anime like Paprika and Nausica. We love deadpan comedies like Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman.

We love to read. I (Annie) tend to have a stack next to my bed and can be reading up to 3 at a time. I like to read classics, or things I hear referenced in other places in my reading. I like to know what they're talking about when I hear or read about other books. Rick's taste can slant a bit towards sci-fi or fantasy. When we first started dating we read the Lord of the Rings books together. More recently we read all of the Harry Potter books. I'm in the middle of Vol 2 of Sherlock Holmes complete stories.

Music, if you live in the greater LA or OC area you know about Kroq the radio station. Our car radio tends to be set there. So modern rock, alternative, with some classic rock (Annie) and jazz (Rick) thrown in. Annie loves The Beatles and is slowly turning Rick into a fan too. Slowly over 9 years of exposure.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Getting married was pretty amazing and our honeymoon to Seattle was beyond expectations! Our trip home was almost entirely based on recommendations we got from strangers along the way and we were never disappointed. By the way we totally recommend the Pink Door restaurant in Seattle just a street above Pike's Market. There was a trapeze artist performing the night we had dinner there!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can play alto sax(well used to for 13 years)
Annie knows scottish dancing.
I would love to practice my terrible spanish with anyone patient enough to deal with my fading high school level.
Rick is attempting to learn Japanese through the Rosseta Stone.
Annie has some minor drawing and painting skill to share, and loves doing arts and crafts with people!
