About Me

I'm Canadian born and raised. I'm addicted to traveling and it takes some effort to find a subject I'm not interested in. I enjoy spirited debates over coffee or a pint, and laugh as often as I can.

PHILOSOPHY

A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.
Friedrich Nietzsche

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ive seen the Panama Canal multiple times, hitched for 4 months across Canada, hiked on glaciers, eaten seal in the first Viking settlement in North America, lobster fished off the coast of PEI, been to the Eastern most point of Canada, drank absinthe on a black beach in Iceland, busked til my fingers bled, had to camp by the side of the highway, fell in love in another country, spent time with natives of another culture with no running water or electricity, cruised around the Caribbean, been in a submarine off the coast of Hawaii, hiked extinct volcanoes, gotten a tattoo on the shore of a lake in the wilderness of Québec, seen the Northern Lights, experienced hurricanes, a tsunami, tropical storms, earthquakes and seen nature so beautiful it has made me cry. Life as a whole is pretty fantastic.

Tips When Hitching:
-- text license plates to people you know and ask the person picking you up if that is ok. If they say no, wait for another ride.
-- semi drivers are the best for long hauls but be wary, some haven't been in close quarters with a woman for a while. Some of my best rides have definitely been semi drivers.
-- use GPS so you know that you are heading the way you want to go.
-- go with your guts. Always.
-- don't hitch at night, you have just as much of a chance to get hit by a car as getting picked up.
-- truck stops are your friend, great place to hide out of the rain while you talk to potential rides.
-- hitch with a buddy, someone you can rely on to pick up signals if you aren't feeling the ride.
-- try not to travel with animals but if you do bring a carry bag and keep the critters as small as possible
-- bring bear/pepper/dog spray (or wasp repellent), if you bring knives while traveling as a precaution, keep them hidden
-- Stay positive. Seriously, positive energy has a way of making things work out. Also, no one wants to travel with a grumpy stranger.
-- Airports and bus stations are great places to sleep as long as you keep to yourself and act like a traveler, not a squatter.
-- try to talk to as many people as possible on your travels. You'll meet a surprising amount of people willing to be ambassadors of their home and more than likely will at least give you advice on how to accomplish whatever you're trying to do.
