About Me

CURRENT MISSION

live life, learn, change the world to the better.

ABOUT ME

2014:
If you ask me today what I'm doing for a living I'll answer I play with dolls. Odd to say for a physicist perhaps but what it really is, is sci-fi high tech! I'll tell you all about it when we meet ;)

I've accepted this job when I was looking for just anything interesting nearby my girlfriend, I wouldn't even have come to this town if I had instead pursued my master's in Magdeburg. And now it looks like I hardly get out anymore! It feels as though this city or rather this job were a child who draws me to its side by crying when I leave. That's also why I haven't had fresh references in a while.

2013:
my Bachelor is coming to an end and I'm scouting Medicine and Medical Systems Engineering to occupy myself with during the next couple of years.

People classify my personality as Scanner (google!), my dream right now is to work as an engineer for engineers without borders and for the UN volunteer service. My key character strengths are apparently (VIA strengths test) Curiosity & Interest in the world, Hope & Optimism & Future-mindedness, Bravery and valor, Perspective, Zest & enthusiasm & energy. I'm always happy to meet people especially if they can identify with any of the above. Just flick me a message ;)

***(I really should rewrite this section at some point)***
Tell me how you travel and I tell you who you are.

I've now camped in wool sheds near Silverton, wrestled calves near Broken Hill, slept underground in White Cliffs and Cooberpedy, camped near Uluru, climbed the King's canyon, walked through Kata Tjuta all while chaperoning a group of international exchange students. Then I surfed Adelaide and Brisbane (it's 27km from the airport to Steve's house. A nice walk I find. Bought great Tofu along the way), hitch-hiked across Fraser Island for four days, slept on the beach in Hervey Bay, sailed the Whitsunday Islands with Joe, Maura and Pete going moonlight sailing while strong wind warning is issued, climbing through rainforest to the top of Hamilton (I think?) Island in thongs where there are no tracks, mudflat skating and snorkelling and duck-diving the coral sea. From here I went explore (some would call it getting lost) the depth of shoulder-high grass around Townsville and then on a boat of a former president of Papua New Guinea for four days to dive the Great Barrier reef and make friends with Norwegians and Americans all of whom I will visit soon. The day after I spontaneously surfed the apartment of Whei & Co, I went camping and hiking in the rainforest and munching fresh pawpaw while watching turkeys and waiting for crocodiles.I drove a Thai couchsurfer across Tasmania in his rental car (7 hours), held presentations and workshops in Australia, Norway (United World College!), Germany and Switzerland and am headed for at least 16 countries (most of them I have already been to) just this year 2011.While I do this, I study Physics and take courses from 5 other subjects and work for 3 NGOs. I love life!

**update** (it's now 2011)yep, still in Australia. I have been living with my current host for a little over 6 months now and have about another 4 months of travelling ahead of me, couchsurfing all the way, looking for other people who might want to come along for a while. The itinerary consists of Broken Hill, Adelaide, Brisbane-Cairns, Melbourne-Alice Springs, Launceston-Hobart and then some more Sydney. I'm super excited to meet new people and get on the road, no, pavement again.

**update** (4 months after the previous lines)
Oh yeah, I'm still on the go :)Right now I am full-time volunteer for a not for profit student exchange organization in Sydney, I love it and enjoy very much to meet people who like contributing as I do.

2010:
I'm currently finishing school (AP Physics and Maths) while organizing an anti tobacco campaign while volunteering for my exchange organization while arranging a surprise birthday "party" (me and my closest friends, we don't but occasionally drink so it's not the typical kind of "let's get booze and girls and firetrucks and bump ourselves out into oblivion"-party) while running my student lead company (field of activity is recycling/saving the environment) while cooking vegetarian (have been for years) while taking extracurricular seminars in philosophy (have been for years as well) while tutoring maths, physics and chemistry. You could call me an activist although I usually refrain from preaching; I've got ideals, dreams, principles and suffer (not really) from a helper syndrome and curiosity :)

alright, I admit, that WAS me a couple of weeks ago. Since then I've been traveling a bit and will probably continue doing so for a while.

PHILOSOPHY

I wouldn't call my small witty quotes and mottoes philosophy, exactly, but I like throwing these in or remembering them for guidance when coming to a fork in the road:

The danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we fail but that we aim too low and succeed. ~Les Brown

Aim for the moon, because even if you miss, you'll be amongst the stars. ~Les Brown

Life is a marathon, not a sprint, so pace yourself. ~K. B. Williams

So imagine we were dead, counting all the things we never did... ~Madina Lake, "Now or never"

You have not lived a perfect day, even though you have earned your money, unless you have done something for someone who will never be able to repay you. ~Ruth Smeltzer

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love travelling (as anyone on here could guess). But beside travelling solo in Russia and France, a fabulous trip to Dublin with my best friend and visiting Norway, I also did some longer trips by myself, living in a host family in the USA (9 months, High School exchange) and in Australia (11 months, volunteer and full-time employee for AFS).The most amazing things... Skiing and Snowboarding certainly are most amazing, a solo bike tour around Germany (90km) amd a 100km Goulburn-Canberra one with spontaneous CSing in the middle got me drooling to make time for more, diving a cave in Croatia, with rays in Spain and with sharks and through an island in Australia are memorable. But really, I try to make most of everything I do and see, appreciate what happens right around me and do not need carlsbad caverns, grand canyon, king's canyon, bondi beach, ayers rock, great barrier reef or great ocean road to call a day beautiful. Although I sometimes seek refuge to those places of unusual sight to contrast a life of beautiful same old routine, just like I think most do.
