About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel, have fun, meet good people.

ABOUT ME

I'm half Vietnamese and half white/Irish. I am currently a 4th dan black belt. I speak Mandarin and have been studying Chinese for entirely too long so I'm always looking for friends to speak Chinese with. I'm slightly obsessed with Tae Kwon Do (TKD) and hookah. (Contrary to popular belief, hookah is GREAT for your health....or so I tell myself.) I'm also a bit of a closet sci-fi geek and a bookworm. I love sarcasm (the funny kind, not the cutting kind) and I talk really fast. I'm told the problem is mostly that I speak quickly, mumble, and talk softly. (At this point, I'm wondering why I have friends. It must be like talking to someone who escaped from an insane asylum.) I'm working on enunciation. I expect this to solve all problems, even world peace.

PHILOSOPHY

Live long and prosper. (I may have stolen that...)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I've gone to a couple of CS meetings in Beijing and hung out with some CSers around the city. I also stayed with a host in Shenzhen, China but that was more of an emergency couch thing. I try to go to CS events around South Florida and I hope I can host once I get my own place or have a roommate who's on board with the idea.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

One example of how the great people who make up Couchsurfing have pulled through for me in the past is when I was desperately looking for a place to sleep for a last-minute trip to Shenzhen (from Beijing) I had to make. Unfortunately I wasn't there to sightsee or make friends and just needed the couch. Several people I made requests to got back to me and happily offered their couches. I was so relieved not to have to spend the whole night at an internet cafe or shell out for an expensive hotel. (All the hostels were booked for some reason.) The couch isn't all there is to couchsurfing, but it's just really cool when people you've never even met pull through for you like that.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love to read. I've always loved sci-fi and fantasy, but I'll read anything. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy taught me all I need to know about towels and made me realize I wish I had a fish in my head. As for music, I seem to have some random tastes. I love Billy Joel. I love oldies. I like Gomez. I also like one Daughtry song. (This is not a complete list.) I like all kinds of movies, especially comedy and action. Jackie Chan is a God.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two of the most memorable travel experiences I've had are camping out on the Great Wall of China and taking a tour of the city that was abandoned because of the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can show you how do a roundhouse kick or a spinning back hook kick. This could be a useful life skill.
