About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Go on a Vision Quest

ABOUT ME

I'm a person of many passions and pursuits. Depending on when you catch me, I could be playing the drums, going on a long bike ride, foraging for wild mushrooms, dancing at a club, reading a book, watching a film, working on a novel, doing improv theater, or drawing someone's portrait. Gah! So much time and so little to do - wait, strike that, reverse it.

I live in a vegetarian residence just this side of intentional community. We sometimes throw big dance parties or host bands for shows, and are all around just pretty awesome.

At the moment I'm trying to make it as a fine art photographer, using traditional film and darkroom methods to make beautiful things to share with people. When that ceases to be sustainable I'll probably go to med school.

PHILOSOPHY

Existence is a strange, sometimes terrifying and bewildering thing, but it's most wonderful when we open ourselves up to the universe, allow ourselves to be vulnerable around others, take risks, share ideas, revel in the moment, and smile often.

Mostly though, after studying philosophy extensively, both in and outside of university, I can confidently say that the stuff is grossly overrated. Now I just wanna dance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live in a very lively house that is unfortunately too crowded for me to be able to host at the moment. I can show you all sorts of cool things around town when I have time. I bike all over Seattle and we have a few extra bikes at my house if you want to ride around with me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used couchsurfing during a bicycle trip from Seattle to San Francisco, and my experience was great. I stayed with awesome folks in Centralia, Portland, and San Francisco. Used it intermittently during a recent four month trip in Europe, good times all around.

Interests

Bikes, urban exploration, dancing, drums, humans, books, movies, hitchhiking, foraging, long walks in the woods, drawing and painting and most especially photography! I'm in the process of making prints of various beautiful abandoned places and people I met from a recent four month tour in Europe.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like non-fiction books on anthropology and philosophy, and novels that are dark, weird, and/or beautiful. Currently working my way through Proust. Some old faves are Catch-22, 1984, and most anything by David Foster Wallace and Kurt Vonnegut.

I really enjoy films and love to have long conversations about ones I enjoy. Lately I have even been bringing my journal and taking notes while at the cinema. David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Charlie Kaufman, and Paul Thomas Anderson are some of my favorite movie-making people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I danced in front of an auditorium full of hundreds of people and a television crew while in India. I'm not a professional dancer, in fact at the time I'd never really danced a day in my life. I was in the crowd jumping around like a maniac who was doing his best to do something that resembled dancing, and was whisked away to the stage to go jump around in front of everyone. I find solace in knowing that I have danced on the television screens of untold scores of people I will never meet.
