About Me

We have received a lot of requests lately from people who are not reading profiles nor filling out thier own, sending blanket requests, bizarrly thinking that CS is like Air BNB, or treating it like just a new way to coast when your roommate kicks you out. Maybe it is because CS has changed or because we live in Denver now. If you are an 'old school' CSer please request us, but if you fall into one of those other categories please dont waste our time or yours.

Now, the actual about us:
We've tried the bulls at San Fermin, and decided instead on sleeping by canals and eating the best garlic mussels of our lives on a French beach under the open skies.

Some of our best times have been camping in quiet pine forests, or swimming in Florida sinkholes.

SHE: has been on 6 of the 7 continents (that includes Antarctica)
HE: lived for 2 1/2 years in Eastern Europe

Our Philosophy: Life is about enjoying where you are, who you're with, what you're eating...and as far as the eye can see. If life is a journey, then why aren't more people travelling and enjoying theirs?!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We're a couple, and both of us bring different experiences to couchsurfing. We traveled as a couple (2 beds are hard to find!) and appreciated couples like us that were able to lend floor/bed/couch to anyone who shared our love of travel. We're here to help others as we were helped on the way home. Honestly a local contact beats a hostel or (shudder) a hotel anyday.

DENVER:
Yes, you can smoke in CO. We do not smoke, nor do we in the house. It's a smell/landlord thing. We totally have no problem with it outside, based on your choice, etc. We both used to, and we're unlikely to harsh your buzz but don't count on us joining you due you our job's still drug testing.

Interests

The South: Hammocks, the sea, windsurfing/sailing. sunning, truly sunning on a beach.... and shading under shady oaks and pines. Smoky wood smoke/ ketchup based bbq sauce, fish frying, people who can do okra or oysters right.

Everywhere else: Green, green, green. If you come from a green place, we want to hear about it. Even if you're snow... what's your green season look like?

Here: The MoAS is always good here in Denver. Also, we're foodies, and can steer other (cheaper) foodies to good spots in town.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books:
Ryan: Dune, Otherland, anything by Kage Baker
Charlie: the Dresden Files, Charlaine Harris
Both of us: Anything by Carl Hiaasen, Game of Thrones

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One? Well.. we made chicken shaorma from scratch (tortillas, everything!) over a rustic fire camping on a beautiful river bluff while the sun set. Irreplaceable memory.

Ryan infused his own whiskey and we got drunk over a beautiful birthday on a Gulf beach, with kayaks and phosphorescent waves.

We spent a summer backpacking the northern Mediterranean region. Our highlights were hiking Samaria Gorge in Crete, sleeping on a pebble beach in Italy, camping on the Basque coast, and getting willfully lost in the medinas of Morocco.

Charlie did the polar plunge in Antarctica by jumping through a biologist's fishing hole in the ice shelf.

Ryan befriended the Hungarians of Transylvania, and has walked the palace of Vlad Tepeș (the Impaler)!

Teach, Learn, Share

Ryan can teach Tarot readings and how to sear meat properly. Charlie will whoop your ass in MarioKart.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When we meet hosts, we ALWAYS bring a gift. Whether it's from two towns over or half a world away, it's always nice to remind our hosts, and us, what a gift it is to be invited into someone's home, even for a night.
