About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to be out there. To travel, explore and to learn

ABOUT ME

I’m new to couch surfing and I haven’t done much traveling. I’ve always waited for the right time to travel or waited to have the right amount of money. I was always waiting for everything to be just right. Well a lifetime of not going anywhere has taught me that there is no such thing as “just right” only RIGHT NOW. I'm tired of waiting. I've spent too much time waiting and I've wasted a lot of time. I refuse to take time for granted. So I’m just going to get out there and see what happens.

Even though I can't afford it I purchased the Jet Blue All You Can Jet Pass. For a sweet price the Pass allows me unlimited flights to any of Jet Blue's 57 locations for a month starting Sept 8th to Oct 8th.

I've been calling myself a writer for years. Though I haven't been doing much writing. I've been doing other things to distract me instead. One could say that I had everything a man can ask for. I drove a luxury car and I wore nice cloths. I owned a business I purchased a house and co-owned another. I didn't do any writing because I was too busy networking. I was too busy trying to make more money so I could buy more things, things that didn’t matter.

I didn’t go anywhere or do anything. I didn’t take advantage of the greatest luxury given to me: Time. I wasted so much time over the last 3 years. I didn’t do any traveling because I was concerned that I’d miss out on work if I was out of town. So I didn’t go to Mexico with friends. I didn’t take a trip to Niagara Falls or to DC. I have traveled to Brazil and to Miami but both trips were for work and I was tethered to the people paying me. I didn’t fully experience either place.

The recession has taught me that the things you own begin to own you. I learned that money had no value. You build a life for yourself and you must sustain it with more money than it took to built it with. Then when that money isn’t coming in anymore you find yourself struggling to keep things that really hold no value. Things that don't matter.

So I got rid of everything that didn't matter. I sold my car, sold my HD TV, my video games (I had an xbox and a PS3). I stoped talking to people who I felt didn't add anything to my life. I stopped networking with people who only cared about themselves.

My next step is to make up for all the time I wasted. Even though I have no money I am determined to travel the country. I purchased the Jet Blue All You Can Jet Pass and I will travel to at least 4 different destinations. I will explore each city, take pictures and write about where I go and what I do. I have been around selfish people for too long, people with no passion and little imagination. I want to truly experience the world and the people in it. I want to be moved to tears or coaxed into laughter by the story of another person. I want to learn from people, gain new insights and perspectives.

When October 8 comes and the pass expires I’m going to hit the road. I bought a fuel efficient SUV and I’ll load up my stuff and my dog Morpheus and I’ll just start to drive. I have no idea where I’ll go or what I’ll find. My plan was to do this in the summer but I couldn’t manage it. I hope I won’t freeze to death out there when the winter comes.

PHILOSOPHY

REFUSE to take time for granted!

It is only after you've lost everything that you are free to do anything.

If you are not doing what you want to do for a living by age 30, chances are you never will.

It is better to have ideas instead of beleifs because ideas are easier to change.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I will write about where I go and who I meet. I will share the stories that people tell to me and tell my stories to them.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I slept on a buddy's couch years ago. At the time I really had no other options. I got an apartment soon after.

Interests

Traveling. Learning. Writing. I'm not really a club goer and prefer coffee houses to bars. I'm a conversationalist I really enjoy intelligent conversations. I really like to share idea and to debate about various topics. I don’t really get much into to politics but I can talk about what little I do know. I can talk about movies and television all day.

Music, Movies, and Books

Musically I can go from Marvin Gaye to System of a Down. Marvin Gaye holds a special place for me. He is an artist who exposes himself completely in his music. I feel I do the same with words. I cannot lie with words nor can I hide. Words flow through me, pumping with the rhythm of my own heart. When I write I feel as though I cut myself, the blood flows from the tips of my fingers and with a splash words are created on the page. Lately though the words have been pumping slower and it is hard for me to squeeze out a drop. I need a transfusion, I need an infusion of life, experience and story.

I get my aggression out by listening to metal. I turn the volume up high and I bang my head like a wild man, my dreads flying and dancing about my head. A good way of getting the blood pumping in the morning.

I enjoy reading Shakespeare. While I do try to imbue my prose with a touch of poetry I cannot in any way match the wordsmithing of the master!

Movies are something that I enjoy quite often. I’m a very harsh critic. A movie must abide by the rules it sets, take me to a different world and entertain me. To me a movie has to be perfect: no plot holes, engaging characters and not a wasted frame.
A few of my favorite movies are:
-The Devil’s Advocate - the devil is a hell of a guy.
-The Usual Suspects - Keyser Söze!!!
-Gladiator - Just great film making
-Forest Gump - can watch that delightful idiot forever.
-Inglorous Basterds.
-American Gangster
-Malcom X - Denzel was ROBBED!!!
