ABOUT ME

I'm half English, half Dutch, and born in the USA. I currently live in NYC where I've been making my living as a musician (folk singer/songwriter). But for the next month or two me and my very special friend Charlie Rayne are on tour in Europe! We're doing a 2.5-month string of concerts throughout Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, France, England, Belgium, and the Netherlands and hopefully we'll make plenty of new friends along the way :)

Interests

Music! But I love anything creative really - it seems like such an obvious thing to say but there you are. I like writing, books, film, stories, traveling..

I also like nighttime strolls, going out, cinema, cafes with terraces, markets, etc, etc... And partying of course. Not a get-smashed-every-night kind of guy but damn me if I don't like spending a night exploring a new town with some good people and a bottle of something. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm big on oldies - film noir, nouvelle vague, cheesy stuff by ed wood and such, hitchcock, also the coen brothers, wes anderson - jeez, you name it. I'd like to think of myself as a bit of a film buff :). I loved l'auberge espagnole, the man who wasn't there, Into the Wild, The Man from Earth, Lost in Translation, Fight Club, This is Spinal Tap... But my favourite movie is Cinema Paradiso, when I'm feeling sentimental :)

Bob Dylan is my biggest musical inspiration. I also love The Beatles (I'm always up for a loud Beatles singalong session ! ), The Velvet Underground, Simon&Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Janis Joplin... the list goes on. I also love blues (john lee hooker, blind willie johnson, robert johnson..), jazz (Nina Simone, Bill Evans, Jamie Cullum..), classical (Bach, Fauré Mozart), world music (Beirut, Jesse Cook)...

As for books, I love Jack Kerouac (and the other Beats, especially Burroughs), Tom Wolfe, Hunter Thompson, Hemingway, Henry Miller, JD Salinger, Jean Rhys, Murakami, Remco Campert.. And I'll confess here that I've also always had a soft spot for Roald Dahl and Harry Potter, no comment about that please :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I sing and play guitar, piano, and harmonica, and I'd be happy to give lessons or share songs. I can teach you the basics of music production, or the absolute rudiments of analogue synthesis. I could also teach English, Dutch, or even Latin.
