Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

This long day occurred in February 2007.
When I visited in Ukraine, I wanted to pass the border between Ukraine and Belarus, but I could not pass the border due to visa problem even bus company said ok for Japanese citizen at reception. That time was midnight, probably 1 am, temperature was -25 degrees.

Around 1 am, first bad meeting was Ukraine boarder guard. They (around 30 year old guys) asked me to pay bribe for processing passport to return back to Ukraine. I refused but they played with me. So I gave up and pay 30 euro at the end.

Secondly, some Ukraine drunk guy picked me up by his car when I stood outside(yes, -25) near by gas station. He drove to his house! He was friendly at the beginning and he promised to bring me to back to Київ(Kiev) if I pay gas fee to him. However he drove to his house where belong to small village, name is Ріпки(Ripky).2 guys were there inside of house, looks like KGB old house!

Later he demanded money, I paid 30 euro again. I did not care about money that time. I just wanted to survive from horrible situation. Money note was just paper in my mind that time. But even after paying, he demanded more and more even passport. So I run away with breaking the wooden door when 1 big guy moved bit far from door. Unfortunately that village was so small and he found me again on the street. AND he pointed his gun at me!I run away again with slipping icy road many times.

Third bad meeting was in front of small local bar. I found old guy on the street. I asked him to help me. Then again, he asked me to pay money. Yes, I was so stupid. But again I just wanted to survive. You know, if you are on the boarder between alive and dead, money is nothing. Anyway I paid 30 euro again. And he run away.

Around 5 am, I knocked someone's house. There were about 60 years old man and wife who prepared news paper or milk. fortunately they were nice. I asked them to borrow mobile phone for calling my ex Ukraine girlfriend who can speak perfect Japanese. She could hang phone fortunately. I told her everything. She translated everything to this old couple in Ukrainian. They took me to police station.

Around 7 am, Police officer open police station, and I talked about all happening to police officer. But my Russian was not enough to tell the all details. Later 1 guy, who could understand basic English, came to station. And we decided to find bad guys!!My mind still did not trust police officer also this time. It is because many betrayal happening in short period. I thought maybe police connect with bad guys and killed me at some bush.

Fortunately police officers were nice people and found my 30 kg suitcase, which had note written in Japanese inside of bad guys house. So they also trust my story. We brought them back to police station.
Police officer asked me how much did I pay for them, do I want to arrest them,,,,,,
But my ex girlfriend could not be official translator since she is my side from beginning. Police officer said official arresting process take 2 weeks. I did not want to stay at police station for 2 weeks also. So I decided to release them. I gave all my finger print at police station. One bad guy's father, around 70 years old came to police station, and say sorry and paid me back 30 euro.

Finally old police officer, who looked like Gorbachev, shouted them. Of course I did not understand what he said. But for sure they got scolded.

Original problem was boarder guard stupid attitude. So I am not sure still Ukraine boarder quality is horrible or not. But please be careful when you pass there.

Later.... I went to Latvia by plane not bus. My Latvian friend fixed my broken backpack. And I did not have internet connection. It was not smart phone yet in 2007. No google map.

I could not watch horror movie for few years. I can make one movie by this. Can you believe my dramatic memory!? I can tell you more details when we meet up!
