About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to work on the most interesting problems I can find, while globetrotting, having adventures, and recording them.

ABOUT ME

I am an engineer. I used to travel quite a bit for work, seeking interesting assignments in interesting places. Now I have a desk job that eats my time from 8-6 every day.

I am in Hash House Harriers and I like to hash as a visitor in other cities.

PHILOSOPHY

Engineering from the Dionysian perspective! Change the world for the better. Whimsy is always appreciated.

You always make a choice. You are responsible for your own greatness.

Life is what you make it.

Go devote yourself to the most important problem you can think of.

Don't forget to be kind.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet interesting people with a diverse set of experiences and ideas.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am able to host when at home, but I do live in the Plano suburb of Dallas. Still, I live within 1 mile of the DART light rail, and I can drop you there.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted a lot (over 25) and I haven't surfed much.

Interests

I am a member of the new community of Makers. I like playing with electronics, micro-controllers, and oscilloscopes.

I cook Louisiana and Provencal cuisine, and if we share a kitchen (mine or yours) I will [attempt to] cook almost anything you like. I can cook or eat meat but prefer otherwise.
I love chatting interesting people with compassion and a sense of humor, over tea.
Bicycling, lifting weights, canoeing, hiking, camping, and ping pong are my sporting hobbies.
I enjoy teaching what knowledge I have to a good listener: math, physics, problem solving, programming, and vegetable gardening especially.
I like to dance, even though I don't know how. Salsa, bluegrass, and funk are fun to dance to. I love to fall in love, not just with people but also with ideas. I believe in making my own way and existentialism.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Mostly nonfiction. Popular engineering titles like Robot Building and Evil Genius books, popular mathematics like Martin Gardner and Douglas Hofstadter, Environment and Ecology

Music: Widely varying.. Blues, Bluegrass, Metal, Indie Disco, Alternative, Classic / Alt Country, Classical, Soul

Movies: I don't have attention span for most movies. I watch a lot of documentaries. I also like ridiculous post-apocalypse action like The Terminator and Mad Max. Comedies, too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nearly got lost without water in the desert in White Sands, NM.

Rode across the state of Alabama on a bike, including through the I-10 tunnel under Mobile bay.

Saved someone from a severe allergic reaction following hurricane Katrina.

Teach, Learn, Share

gardening, programming, circuits, mechanical design, fabrication, woodworking
