About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make memories so bold even Alzheimers can't touch 'em...

ABOUT ME

I hate these "summarize yourself in a couple boxes" things. I'm terrible at them. I totally understand why they're there--to screen for weirdos, potential best friends and the like. I'm just not sure how useful a self-description is. A serial killer would be all like, "I love kittens," and you'd be like, "oh boy, I love kittens too--we're a match made in heaven," and then they'd, like, totally kill you and stuff. And they probably wouldn't even really like kittens...

That went downhill fast.

PHILOSOPHY

Moderation in everything, especially moderation...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've used Couchsurfing to meet the world's greatest people on a two-month voyage through Europe, to stay sane hosting in Siberia, then on another journey around the world. Now that I've got a place to myself, I'm hoping to give back again to the community and host the fuck out of you! Come revel in the Majestic Madcity!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been doin' this on-and-off for half a decade, and have yet to meet one bad couchsurfer. Which, statistically speaking, means it's about time, right? You can be my first!

...

Interests

List anything I'm interested in? Anything? Really? OK, let's see...

Speedflying; today's weather; soft rain on tin roofs; those mice that hop like kangaroos; mama/baby kangaroo crime-fighting duos; doing illegal stuff and not getting caught; warm, slightly-burnt toast with tart raspberry jam; warm, un-burnt towels (with little to no raspberry jam); freshly-clipped fingernails; why Mongolia has been so suspiciously quiet for 700 years; stealing a Nerpa (an adorable Lake Baikal seal) and training it to be my guard seal; who would win a fight between a hippo-sized lobster and a hippo-sized hippo, and how can we make this fight happen; who invented clapping (that is, think: I like this so damn much, I'm going to start slamming my hands together); how many times have I seen the exact same person and not known that I've seen them before; how many times have I seen the same person & not cared to see them anymore; is it harder to find good skipping stones now that billions of people have thrown the best ones into the middle of lakes; do we wake up when we die in dreams because we don't know what happens next, or is waking up EXACTLY what happens next?

...This could get pretty ridiculous.

I'll finish later.

Music, Movies, and Books

Y Tu Mama También; The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen); Borat; Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona; The Return (Vozvrasheniya)--just to name a few. I like movies that keep you pondering and re-pondering long after they're done. Then again, seeing "2012" dubbed into Russian (someone yelling "Davaii, davvaiii!" while shit collapses for 3 hours straight) was also pretty phenomenal...

My passion for music includes tunes from nearly every genre (though death metal never really touched me). Indie-Folk, Deep House, Electronic and Hip Hop are probably my top few right now. But seriously, if you want me to straight nerd out, ask me about my music...

Books: Jack Kerouac's On The Road is a goddamn travelling classic. Just started "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" and was quite pleased to learn of his shockingly under-reported burning hatred for the undead. For non-fiction, Malcolm Gladwell is the most fascinating, slightly-less-than-scientific author I've ever read (especially "Outliers"). Otherwise, I enjoy reading about America's path to world domination through violence, subterfuge & general economic fuckery (Confessions of an Economic Hitman, Charlie Wilson's War, All the Shah's Men, etc.) to better understand the modern world & why I should feel guilty about it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Brought snow to Córdoba, Spain for the first time in over 100 yrs.

You're welcome, Córdoba citizens.

...I was really hoping for sunshine.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know some basic waltz, tango and salsa dancing. I love cooking (no baking though, flour fights are hell to clean up). I can teach you how to smoke hash Soviet-style. I give wonderful back massages when I'm bored. I'd love to practice vulgar English, Spanish or Russian with you. Hell, any language is cool--let's learn Tumbuka ("Nataya chikwama chane... unyakhe wa chiwerezga!")

Countries I’ve Visited

Armenia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Monaco, Mongolia, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom
