About Me

CURRENT MISSION

live meaningfully

ABOUT ME

i like good conversation, tasty snackies, outlandish earrings, cats, trying and generally failing to stick it to the man, earl grey tea, memorizing poetry, and bicycling in beautiful weather.

PHILOSOPHY

i haven't got a personal philosophy. feel kind of like i should? ok, i've got it. my personal philosophy is to redeem cynicism (cynicism staves off madness: thus, is it death to the artist or a singular path to greatness, via paradoxical madness achieved through astonishing lucidity?!).
also: read.
also: live according to the law of exception. which isn't so much a choice but an acceptance of fate's decree!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

when i have space and roommates that are cool with couchsurfing, then i host. that happy marriage of conditions last happened two years ago in tallahassee. i've also surfed during my travels. and sometimes i fall asleep on couches at parties.

Music, Movies, and Books

right now listening to patti smith. kind of became an old person recently, in that i'm not that interested in "new music". feel depressed by the zillions of bands out there in buzz space, trying to get noticed but not by too many people. therefore i just tend to listen to cat power and nina simone over and over. in true old person fashion, i sometimes find new music via friends who have not yet lost the fire.

um, movies. in my five year plan, i will become a movie snob, knowing lots about the canon and quoting tarkovsky. right now i am better at quoting "in bruges". also love "the piano teacher", and "the piano". if you can play piano, i will probably love you.

i love books more than some people love their children. let's talk about it. here are five randomish picks that get me so excited i might accidentally spit while discussing them: roberto bolaño, virginia woolf, bohumil hrabal, carson mccullers, shakespeare.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have made thousands of crepes and that is not an exaggeration.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to recite all the US presidents in chronological order, via an easy-to-learn song. This, as you will discover, is both a handy skill to debut at parties, and extremely helpful knowledge to have when confronted by trivia questions.
Also, I can show you how to make a delicious dish I've invented entitled "egg thing." Egg thing's mouthwatering goodness cannot be exaggerated. Learn how to create egg thing, make your own variations, and take egg thing back to your homeland so that eventually it can assume its rightful place as meal of the masses: a breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner that crosses cultural boundaries and eschews nationalistic identity.
