About Me

Hi! I am originally from Czech Republic, but I have been living in Okinawa since 2005. Okinawa is the southernmost prefecture of Japan, a subtropical island with a beautiful ocean and (too) many military bases. I came to Okinawa to study karate and somehow ended up working in a molecular biology research lab. Life is full of surprises.

I am easy-going. I take time to form my opinions and rarely change them. I like surprises and unexpected encounters in life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I and my wife Aska occasionally surf couches when travelling abroad, and (more often) host CouchSurfers who find their way down to Okinawa. We have also hosted CouchSurfing gatherings at our house in Okinawa a few times.

Music, Movies, and Books

*Movies* I do not watch TV, but I like movies a lot. A few nice ones I have seen recently: Coraline, Let The Right One In, The Twilight Samurai, The Boat that Rocked, In The Loop, Soul Kitchen
*Music* Jethro Tull is my favorite band. And The White Stripes. I like classic rock in general, but recently Aska is turning me into a jazz fan
*Books*: Douglas Adams was the hero of my teenage life. Since I grew up, I like John Irving's books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The party on Queen's Day in Amsterdam.
The view from Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Taroko Gorge in Hualien, Taiwan.
